The owner or maître D came out immediately and made an amazing moment taking a pic of our family in front of tree. Food was next level and can hold its own with Dc and more importantly NYC Italian. I would go far as say it was freshest and tastiest pasta I have ever had. The only minor call outs were not truly avoidable, waiter was a little preoccupied, price of food was high for Baltimore but not high for the quality of food in general. It was 9/10 and a destination eatery for the city of Baltimore. We will be back

Christmas Day was made very special by Sotto Sopra. From the ambiance of this beautifully decorated 1850 building, to the wonderful staff, each with a smile to greet and serve you. But the food; that was the star of the day! The calamari was exceptional and definitely not you mama's calamari! It's a must have. And the goat cheese salad, amazing! The seafood pasta was loaded with lobster, crab and shrimp, and swirled in a luxurious sauce. The pork shank with risotto was very tasty and very filling. We ordered the the bread pudding and cheesecake to go as we were so full after our meal, and will have it this morning with our coffee. I just know both will be a great start to the day. Thanks to Sotto Sopra for making our Christmas day so special.

We reserved for Christmas Eve well in advance. We had no reason to suspect any disappointment. For the past two years, we've come to this restaurant on Christmas Eve (and Holy Saturday) for marvelous food and outstanding service. This experience was a disaster from start to finish. The manager completely ignored us (despite encountering us in the wind-swept coat check area). The hostess made us wait ten more minutes for our table (which we could see, clearly ready). Our server was inept; but recommended the most expensive seafood pasta on the menu, assuring us that it had abundant lobster claw meat. Everything we questioned turned out to be different than what was promised. Fried Calamari was mostly fried veggies. The wine came from a totally different vineyard; and it was difficult to determine if it were actually the same bin we ordered. In the end, the substituted varietal was only mediocre. Our two lobster papadrelle entrées had vodka sauce with a strange aftertaste: it contained no lobster; only poor quality shrimp and "fake crab" substitute. Sotto Sopra, once our favorite destination spot in Baltimore, charged us $85 for a bottle of wine and an appetizer. Surely, they comped the dinners; but they made us feel like Christmas orphans. I guess having no face recognition with the managers automatically puts one at a disadvantage. We're never going back again!

It was our first time dining at Sotto Sopra, and we will definitely be returning! The food was incredible, with plenty of delicious vegetarian options to choose from. Our server was not only friendly but also incredibly thoughtful, going above and beyond to make our experience memorable. We were so full from our meal that we couldn’t manage dessert, but she surprised us with a special treat to celebrate a birthday! We highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to come back.

When we arrived, our immediate reaction was “little divey place”. The entrance is very unassuming giving off the impression of a small, family owned type of place. Do not judge a restaurant by its front door! Once you get past the hostess podium, the restaurant opens into this large beautiful room, with a nice level of mood lighting and tables sufficiently spaced that you did feel like you were in a bad NYC pop up. We also arrived early due to a concert, so at first, the place was fairly quiet, but as the evening progressed, the place was still quiet enough to easily carry on a conversation. The wine list is not lengthy, but has some very nice wines at typical restaurant price, both bottle and glass. My Montepulciano was very good for $12 a glass. The menu includes a good number of appetizers to choose from ranging from a charcuterie board to a number of salads. The in restaurant made pastas were plentiful and creative, including a Veal stuffed pasta with pancetta and spinach that was amazing and very flavorful, as well as several chicken and fish dishes. There was also a series of specials ranging from carpaccio to pumpkin pasta, which my wife enjoyed greatly. The prices aren’t cheap, but they are in line with a city restaurant serving high end food and wine. If you want Olive Garden, go there. This is better. Oh, and the tiramisu was to die for! Service was excellent and attentive. From the hostess who was very friendly and made sure we were comfortable to our waiter and staff who made sure we were able to make our 6:30 concert without being pushy or rushed. Sotto can be a place for families but not little ones. Dress is business casual ( it had snowed when we went there so I was in a dark pair of jeans, which was acceptable. Not a t-shirt/shorts kind of place. A good place for a business dinner as well, but not sure I’d recommend it for an office party. Overall, Sotto Soprano gets two thumbs up and definitely a revisit!
