The Silver Heights Restaurant opened its doors at 2169 Portage Avenue in June, 1957. Former cabbie Anthony Siwicki Sr. had no idea it would still be going strong today! His operating philosophy was simple: “Provide your guests with quick and friendly service, and to serve fresh, delicious quality food at a reasonable price”…and to keep it that way. The restaurant is now in its third generation going forward.

Silver Heights Restaurant was slowly transformed from a coffee shop into a lounge and dining room and bar. The adjoining hardware store on the East side became the dining room. In 1964 Tony bought out his three partners and his three sons Jim, Dave and Allan have grown the business.

    I was disappointed with delivery of my meal. Our group of 4 all ordered the steak sandwiches at the same time. 3 of our group received their meal apx. 8 to 10 minutes before mine was delivered. Plus you restaurant did not have any steak sauce. 3 of our group ha eaten half of their meal before I received my meal, it appears to me that the kitchen forgot to prepare my meal. The waitress apologized for the delay for the wait for my meal. The soup and steak were very good.

    Went because of media reviews that said it was a good place and good food, but found the decor was marginal and basic, the wine list was quite decent, but the food was marginal: the clam chowder was like no other clam chowder (it was more of a thick, gummy stew than a soup and it had cheese melted on top), the calamari wasn't baby squid, it was full-grown squid in small pieces, and while it was very tasty it was rubbery inside. The soup of the day was excellent, and so was the steak paparazzi. The restaurant was very good about it, and removed the chowder and the soup of the day from our bill, our thanks to them.

    So booked my reservation online. Arrived 20 mins earlier. Was seated in the middle of the dining room with a tiny table. Restaurant was not busy, Wednesday night birthday celebration. Asked if we could be moved and was told NO. Once seated the table wobbled all over the place. My partner asked for a different table and was moved to a table at the back of the restaurant by the washroom doors. Felt very rushed despite the restaurant not being busy. Didn’t even finish the last bite of salad and plate was whisked away and entree brought. The food was okay, nothing to rant about. Throughout the evening the restaurant was still not very busy so don’t know why I was told we couldn’t have a better table when we arrived. Went to try this restaurant because I had a gift card, probably will not be going back, especially to celebrate a special occasion…maybe for a quick in and out meal. I think silver heights can do better!
