Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

    Multiple dates available
    Parties of over six guests are required to order from our sharing menu on Fridays on Saturdays. For bookings in December we require an order from one of our festive sharing menus. Please see the below links for full menu details. We will require credit/debit card details to secure this booking. Cards will not be charged apart from in the event of a no-show or a cancellation or reduction to party size with under 48 hours notice.     Really nice food and ambience. It is expensive, but the quality is excellent. I'm only being hypercritical with my 'star' allocation. Would definitely return.

    Had a lovely lunch with my sisters to celebrate a birthday. We had excellent service, food was great and arrived promptly. We chose from the lunchtime fixed menu which is excellent value. Our waiter was very attentive and refilled our water glasses many times. We were even presented with a free desert plus candle for our birthday girl. Will definitely come again.

    I had a lovely dining experience today! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food was delightful, with a great variety of flavors that left us satisfied. Overall, it was a wonderful meal, and I can’t wait to return!     Took my mum for Mother’s Day and the staff could not have been nicer and more patient. The food was excellent (as always) and my espresso martini was really well done to finish off a lovely meal.

    The food was great, but the duck was cold by the time we'd eaten the mixed platter. Asked if we wanted a 15 minute break between starters and the main course we said yes. 5 minutes later the main course arrived
