    My friend and I were rich in anticipation to celebrate our one-year anniversary at Serevan, the first restaurant that we would dine at in upstate New York.  Serevan turned out not just to be a huge disappointment, but the aggressive and volatile treatment that we experienced from the owner, Serge Madikians, was appalling. After responding to our lovely waiter's inquiry about our barely touched appetizers that "we really wanted to like them, but we didn’t" and asked him to please bring out the main course as soon as it was ready, Madikians storms out from the kitchen and screams at the top of his lungs, “how do you plan to enjoy the entrée if you did not like the appetizers?  This is a place of business!  We do not do business like this. You are offensive.  What do you mean you tried to like it but just didn’t?” We attempted to explain that we did not like the appetizers but we hoped to enjoy the entrée.  But nothing would assuage his rage. He proceeded, “These are our two most popular appetizers.  You are offensive!  This is my work!”  We apologized for offending him and asked if he could lower his voice so we can address each other as humans.  He raised his voice even higher and continued to say that we were in his space. We shared that we came into his restaurant in a jubilant celebratory mood. My friend went to tell Andrew that we would take our entrée to go as the restaurant was not a safe space to eat and that we would take the check.  Madikians brought us the packed food and continued to scream at us, to not “forget to tip Andrew. It’s how he makes his living.”  We assured him that we fully intended on tipping Andrew after we paid our bill. As we paid the bill, he continued to shout, “trust me, as a gay man, this hurts me more than it hurts you.” To which we responded, “let’s not rank feelings.  This is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved.  This is an awkward and unnecessary experience.”

    Severan is out of the way for us but we stop for a meal whenever we can. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented (our experience last week was no exception). The service reflects a well-trained staff -- they know the food, they field questions well, make helpful suggestions, are consistently friendly, polite and professional. The chef/owner always stops by to say hello and thank us for coming. The gestalt is a a perfect segue from hectic NYC to the serenity of the Berkshires. A gem.

    Drinks were not too good. Two of them were way too sour. The gin and tonic was flat and tasteless. Didn't yseschweps for sure food was fair to good. Dessert was a soggy mass instead of crisp baklava. Disappointed with the quality of everything. It's been much better than it was Sunday night.

    Serevan is a perennial favorite! It never disappoints. The food unique and outstanding, and we always enjoy chatting with the chef.

    Best oysters ever. The chef flies them in for weekend service. Had the fresh trout which was perfectly plated and sauced. Yum!

    Our first time there. Serge, the chef/owner, is a master. Delicious food with lots of local ingredients. Very personal touch. Good handling of my celiac disease dietary restriction. We'll be back!

    Food is fabulous as always. Wait staff seemed unsure of things and literally bumping into each other...they were polite but disorganized etc.

    Absolutely amazing restaurant. The food was fantastic, service was exceptional. It was like eating a gourmet meal cooked personally for you by the owner/chef.

    Menu is very creative and well done and the presentation and the quality of the food did not disappoint. Only concern was location of table directly in front of the kitchen and in a busy traffic lane. They were very busy but service was still very good.
