   With the exception of the gentleman at the checkin desk, everything about the restaurant was professional and first class. Our waitress was adorable, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food was delicious: short ribs, halibut, truffle risotto, pumpkin creme brulee, drinks, etc. The atmosphere was really nice with tables NOT crowded, easy to have a conversation, and lovely decor.

   After reading previous reviews we were looking forward to an excellent meal. Sadly our expectations were not met. The location Salt and Meadow is tough to beat. It has an interesting decor and friendly staff however the quality of the food does not meet the definition of fine dining. The service was acceptable for a Saturday night. We did have to wait about 20 minutes to order. The server was friendly and we did receive our meal within a reasonable amount of time. The rolls that were served before dinner were warm, but did not have much flavor and appeared to have come from a grocery store shelf as opposed to any type of local bakery. The crab cakes were fairly small, didn’t have much flavor and served with way too much tartar sauce. The burrrata squash salad was bland and the arugula salad was ok, however the chunks of squash were served with the skin. The food was ok - we were just expecting a higher level of quality given the location and menu prices. It wasn’t a terrible experience, we were just expecting better food.

   Enjoyed a drink at the bar before dinner - new seasonal cocktail Cranberry Ginger Mule was very good. Dinner and desserts were fantastic and service is always great.

   My wife and I had our best dinner since before Covid. The apple salad was amazing and the rockfish, which I had was great, and a good size portion. My wife had the crab cake which she loved and the pear salad for dissert was perfect. We were celebrating my birthday and this birthday dinner was really special. The Chef demonstrates what it is to be a 5 star chef. The service was quite good and very attentive.

   We had an excellent dining experience at Salt and Meadow this week. The renovation of the dining room is absolutely lovely, it’s open, airy, light, with comfortable seating and crisp linens. We had a table with a beautiful water view. Service by Brittany was excellent, she was timely, attentive and very friendly! The young server who brought our food was also very attentive and professional. The menu has been changed since we dined in July, it’s expanded with something for everyone(fish, pork, beef, vegetarian). The salted yeast rolls came out warm with a nice soft butter. I started with the crab bisque, one of the best I’ve ever had, absolutely delicious with lots of lump crab and a wonderful kick of spice for great flavor. The beef tenderloin was done to perfection at medium rare. My spouse had a delicious linguine with scallops that was perfectly, lightly sauced. We were too full for desert, passing on the bread pudding was really difficult! The wine list was very good, by the bottle and glass, many good choices. This is a high end dining experience that we thoroughly enjoyed, a great place for any special occasion or date night if you are staying at the Tides Inn or in the Northern Neck area.
