   booked this place on how high it scored on your website. I do not normally write reviews but felt the need to help others decide. Firstly sitting in the place and there is no inclination its an Asian restaurant with Photos of the Beatles etc on the wall. normally when i walk into a you can smell the food being cooked but there was nothing. We always order the poppadom's and chutney tray prior to food and joke about how we could just eat these in a restaurant but what we recieved was a a bowl of 2 inch discs and small pieces resembling natchos the type you can get in a packet and the blandest chutneys i have ever tasted and that includes shop bought. We ordered jalfreze and a korma and an aubergine dish which was recommended hoping things would improve. The dishes were completely bland and hardly any taste of spicing the heat was there in the jalfreze due to the green chilles but no real taste of the spices and same said for the other two dishes. the staff seem to just want you to buy more things on the menu which we normally do. I always believed you cant go wrong with asian resturants but sadly they proved me wrong it was our biggest disappointment from our visit to bath had lovely meals else where .

   Lovely staff. Brisk Sunday evening service. I’d requested a ‘not too cramped’ table but was shown a narrow raised area and a small table. We were later moved to a (weir view) table for 4 to accommodate our order. The ambience would feel less cramped for space if, when less busy, a table for 2, at each level of the 2 lower basement levels, could be removed. We were 2 people sharing a number of starters. The aubergine (starter size) and the goat patties were delicious. One of the lamb chops we shared was cooked perfectly and very flavourful the other was too fatty for our liking and fat edge not tastily seared. I thought the ‘tandoori cooked’ monkfish tail would be seared on the outside and moist in the middle with a light tandoori smokey vibe but it came cubed and covered in a generous creamy (? Cashew? Cream?) sauce and neither of us would order it cooked like this again. The beetroot Pattie was disappointing and we didn’t finish them. Beetroot is a delicious earthy vegetable but this was mixed with binders such as potato and chick pea and they looked appetising but we found them stodgy and bland. Several dishes were served with a garnish of raw mung bean and a pickled ingredient both tasty but didn’t go well with every dish, possibly the fish. The peshwari nan was crisp and nicely balanced with sweetness which was perfect to scoop up the yummy aubergine. We met the charming and hard working owner/chef who is passionate about his relatively new Bath based restaurant and we wish him all the best in his new venture.

   The children decided on this one as part of our weekend in Bath. A lovely setting in the heart of the city. Staff were on point from the moment we walked in and very attentive throughout which made for a lovely experience throughout.. They catered for my youngest indecision supplying a starter sample and a de-spiced main alternative without making a fuss ❤️. We are usually fussy about paying service charges but the waiters and staff went over and beyond to earn our support- finishing our meal with a complimentary mango sorbet in celebration of my birthday- we couldn’t fault.

   Excellent as usual, lovely warm welcome from the staff. Food is consistently outstanding, so tasty.

   Really great evening. Food exceptional, top end quality. Service attentive and efficient. Pricey but portion sizes good for main meals and rice. Side dishes a little on the small side for the cash.

   Our experience at Root Spice was outstanding. The service was very attentive, catered to our needs (food allergies), and very kind. Every dish in our five course menu was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was lovely and tasteful. We highly recommend this restaurant.

   Excellent service from when we arrived, the food was excellent and looked and tasted absolutely delicious. The restaurant is modern and cosy with great ambience, we had a wonderful table overlooking the river & weir. We will definitely be returning…5 stars all round!!

    Great food - very well spiced and with nice additional elements, service was very good on a very busy night with some large parties, we would definitely eat here again
