Nice spot for a special occasion. Great service and ambiance. Overall, food was good but some items were not up to par. The French onion soup lacked substance and flavor. Didn't seem fresh and definitely didn't live up to it's cost. Same with the potato wedges (side). Minimal flavor and disappointing. Definitely recommend the flat bread as an app. The short ribs were very good and the ribeye was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Definitely overpriced but sometimes, you have to pay to play.

It was nice to have a night out for dinner, but we would not return to this restaurant (first time there). Our server was good, but the food was just okay, and it was overpriced. We ordered the French onion soup, 8 oz and 12 oz filets, the lobster mac and cheese, the street corn, and a lemon tart. The soup was fine, but not outstanding by any means. The smaller steak was overcooked; the larger steak was good (medium rare). The mac and cheese was surprisingly dry and not very cheesy or creamy, and it lacked flavor. The street corn was the best thing we had there; quite good. Unfortunately, the lemon tart our server recommended wasn’t good. Besides the mediocre food, we did not feel the ambiance matched the price point either. We would both rather go down the street to Black & Blue next time.

We we surprised to find Rare 3001 in the lower level of the old Spring House…for all old enough to remember its long history in Rochester! The atmosphere was great and more intimate than one would expect and service was very attentive. The food was very good. I had rack of lamb, perfectly cooked, but easily a dish for two! My husband had the filet..also cooked to his request. The sides are definitely shareable. The prices are inline with a NYC steakhouse. All said, a nice experience, with a high price tag…portions could be smaller and less pricey.

5 PM reservations to beat the rush. Small place, maybe 6 tables in the eating area unless there was another area we did not see. The bar was hopping! Small as well, a couple of standing tables, rest was 2-3 deep at the bar. It was Negroni night, free samples and $10 cocktails. Tried a couple of the flavors, but Campari is not for me. As for dinner, the excellent server (Chris) provided multiple choices of water. Hubby liked the house wine which was Alex Valley Vine according to the bill (also named Monroes Restaurant at the top of the bill). Three warm rolls arrived. We both had the Lobster Bisque which came with sherry on top. Best we have had in a long, long time! Hubby had the Filet (perfect) with Truffle butter and Truffle fries (never enough truffles I guess!). I had the Seafood Tagliatelle, asking for the chef to make it spicy. Great flavor and large scallops, shrimp and lobster. We enjoyed everything very much except maybe the fries as they were more like huge potato wedges, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Hubby used some truffle butter on what he ate as he said the inside did not have much taste. Pricey, so review online information before going. Chairs were firm but very comfortable.
