Rappahannock Oyster Bar (Wharf) occupies the restored historic oyster shed (circa 1912) building at the Municipal Fish Market (the oldest fish market in the United States). The restaurant serves a line up of small plate offerings, wines, craft beers, unique cocktails, and of course, our very own celebrated shellfish.

It’s one of my favorite restaurants in DC. My first stop when we fly in from Miami. The Salties are the best oyster by far.

They were understaffed, so service was kind of slow. I think they had one person for the outside, and one for the inside. They didn't have a hostess present either, which meant the servers were also doing the seating as well. Still, our server was fantastic, and the food was delicious. My wife enjoyed the oysters and cocktail shrimp. They don't have a kids menu, but they do kids portions of the burger, fried basket, and one other item. She had the fried basket. I has the crab cake; it had barely any filler (a plus) and was well seasoned.

My experience at Rappahannock Oyster Bar was wonderful. The food was delicious & the service courteous & attentive. I am always impressed when a restaurant is flexible enough to seat me a little earlier than my reservation because that is definitely a plus for me when traveling to DC. Traffic was a nightmare & it was nice to be able to be seated early & to get to relax. My only negative comment was I was dining out for my husband’s birthday & I indicated that on my reservations. There were no perks for this. That was disappointing. Most restaurants I go to have a little something extra for birthdays but apparently not this one.

Enjoyed the protected patio space. A few members of the group was nervous about the 'fishy' smell of the wharf but you couldn't tell inside the restaurant. They also ended up enjoying the grilled and fried oysters (they tried raw the day before and did not like it). The crab cake was delicious and despite the paprika/bell pepper allergy, they were unaffected which made it easier to enjoy. The coffee/espresso chocolate creme brulee is the bomb. Must order.

Raw oysters and fried oyster po boy were delicious. I would come back for the oysters for sure. Service was very friendly, but sort of up and down - either very attentive, and then forgetting things and we'd have to ask for something again, or disappearing for a long time. Asian pear apple salad and caesar salad were both very flavorful. Branzino was cooked well, but not fully deboned. Some friends of mine that live on the Wharf don't recommend this place, but I would go back -- the oysters were indeed very fresh and delectable - and the place is pretty quiet with nice outdoor and indoor seating near the water. Service needs to be more consistent, although I will say it was very friendly.

We had a reservation for 6:30. We got there early. The restaurant was not particularly busy. We sat at the bar as we had theater tickets at Arena Stage. There were six other people seated at the bar. Four staff were behind the bar. We waived arms. We did everything to get somebody's attention. After 15 minutes waiting to be acknowledged we left. Nobody cared.
