Nearly 70 years after its arrival onto the San Diego boutique hotel landscape, Point Loma’s iconic mid-century modern Pearl Hotel has unveiled the latest chapter in its storied history with an ambitiously reimagined restaurant and bar: Ponyboy. The inspiration behind Ponyboy extends beyond its décor and menu. Named after the protagonist of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, the restaurant conveys the spirit of individuality and rebellion in a time when hope and resilience were pivotal to navigating the challenges of a changing world. Guests will sense the nod to cultural iconography as they step into a space that feels familiar and refreshingly new. The ambiance is designed to harken back to a bygone era when traditional American comfort foods and elaborate dinner parties were both fashionable and fun. We look forward to seeing you soon, drink in hand, soaking in the sun pool-side. Stay gold, San Diego.

We came for Valentine's weekend, which had a special 3 course menu. Each dish was delicious and the servers explained the make up of each dish which made it even more of an experience. They had disney movies playing on the various screens around the restaurant which made for a nostalgic atmosphere. Highly recommend Ponyboy for date night

What a fun night out with our daughter and her boyfriend. This place has such a unique vice and a fun menu. The ready cocktail selection was great and we enjoyed ordering some fun beverages to enjoy with dinner and for dessert. The deviled eggs were amazing! And our dinners were delicious and a fun twist on old classics. Enjoyed glancing at episodes of Bewirched while we dined. I’m sure we’ll be back l again!

The pearl hotel has been a great place to get some drinks in Pt Loma for a long long time. Unfortunately, these days you're going to need a reservation because the food is just so damn good. Ponyboy has added their own spin to the concept of "dive in theater" and now the cocktails are perfect, and the food is so different from anything anyone else is doing in San Diego. I'm not sure how long they'll be able to keep the current reasonable price point, but for now it's also a relative bargain. Go now while you can get it

Pony Boy is delightful in all respects. The food is fantastic and the staff is superb. We love the quirky throw back decor from the fifties. And no annoying sports on TV to ruin the great dining experience.

My overall experience was fine. But I don’t particularly see myself returning here. My main concern was the food/drinks. For the price point, I didn’t find it worth it. For the flavor and the execution. The prime rib was 50% dense fat which definitely wasn’t worth the $35. The beef stroganoff was good but nothing to rave home about. The grasshopper pie was also good but again, nothing particularly wowed me. The apple cinnamon whisky sour had a ridiculous amount of cinnamon on top so it was extremely hard to drink. Service was great though!

Service was terrific, as were the specialty drinks. One of us raved about the stroganoff and another of the soup. Two of us had the fondue, which turned out to be meatless and skimpy, a surprise at $40. Only other disappointment was the pineapple-upside down cake, which, unlike the rest of the menu, was a chic update that fell short. Still, we'll definitely return. We'll have to research the parking. We found none at the restaurant and cruised the neighborhood. Took us a good 10 minutes to find anything. Maybe Uber?

The host/ floor manager was top notch, very professional and efficient. Our sever, could have been better, forgetting our drinks. Food was good and loved the ambiance and the endless Bewitched. Really like the ambrosia salad. We will definitely go back.

We had the fisherman's hot plate and it was tasty, but a bit too tangy. The fish sandwich was just OK--the shark seemed mushy, and the bun was gigantic. Would have been nice to have a bit of slaw or something green instead of so many fries. We've been here before it was Pony Boy, and I get the vibe, but I don't get the cartoons showing on the giant screens--so distracting. Of course I don't like TV's in restaurants, so I guess it's better than sports, but can we just turn off the TV's?
