  • Neighbourhood gem

In 1992, thrown together on Cape Cod by political circumstances none of them could have predicted, four young Yugoslavs founded Pain D'Avignon.Their goal was to recreate the Old World Traditions using baking techniques and recipes barely changed in centuries. Their founding principle: fine breads deserve to be at the center of the dining experience, not a mere afterthought. At their Hyannis bakery, the timeless art of bread making is both revered and respected. Everyday salt, flour and filtered water are combined – like the bakers themselves – with a distinctly European flavor.

Food was really not good. There were 4 of us. meat was overcooked. We ordered marinated lamb chops medium rare. they came well done with absolutely no taste. tough and not marinated. burger was over cooked as well, ordered medium rare. french fries not cooked enough. spinach so incredibly salty that three people couldn't eat. Salad also over salted as well. Tried ordering salmon and then cod but they were already out of it at 7:15pm. Bar drinks were good. Service people very nice

We had a great waiter who was engaging, knowledgeable and friendly. Just enough attention to make us feel comfortable to enjoy our wine, lunch and conversation. It was great afternoon.

The staff at PDA are always excellent and I could say the same about the food under normal circumstances but I'm disappointed to say the food wasn't very good this time. The bread is delicious but the French Onion Soup had way too much salt. So did the Scallops with Saffron and Pea Risotto. I couldn't taste the saffron at all and the scallops were fishy smelling, rubbery, and overcooked. The worst offender of the night was surprising because the salads are usually so good here but the Mediterranean Garbanzo Salad was watery, flavorless, and looked like someone who doesn't like salads made it. If you've ever eaten at PDA before, you know the food is usually excellent but last night it just wasn't even close. The cocktails we had were great and so were the wines. The service was also fantastic which you can usually expect at PDA as well. I hope whatever is going on in the kitchen gets sorted out because it was way off last night based on my past experiences at this fine restaurant. Normally you get what you pay for but not this time.

This is s wonderful bistro style full service popular restaurant. Make reservations particularly summer & weekends yr round. The bread is the absolute best, they are known for it. The food is fresh & well prepared with the exception of the oil & vinegar dressing on my side salad this time. Very acidic. Way too much vinegar. I think someone made a mistake. First time an error such as this. The Quiche was tasty & my hubby had the gruyer cheese & ham open sandwich which he loved. Check their calendar for days & times.

Excellent quiche and authentic French pastries. The bakery is open early for those to go items. The breakfast at the restaurant was wonderful. I would visit every time I am in Hyannis

Weekend Brunch menu for two, delicious food, excellent service, with an authentic French bistro atmosphere. What more could you ask for? We started with an "Eye Opener" which is their version of a delicious bloody mary and a glass Champagne (Laurent) (excellent) and some delicious Wellfleet Oysters. We followed with Eggs Norwegian (like an eggs benedict with smoked salmon) and the Steak & Eggs (both were delicious). Oh, and on your way out, stop at their boulangerie for some delicious breads and other baked goods to take home. (Do not miss their country sourdough!) Love this place.
