Ozumo is one of San Francisco’s most popular destinations for contemporary Japanese cuisine. Created in 2001, Ozumo was one of the first restaurants to combine sushi and robata cooking under one roof. Great lunch spot and convenient location. Amazing food and vibes. Highly recommended for light, delicious japanese food in the heart of FiDi. Staff was super attentive.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Was sat at the sushi bar and was not informed we couldn’t order directly with the chef who was in front of us. The fish was tasteless in a way that it tasted frozen and old. Ordered salmon crispy rice, over sauced with mayo and no crisp. The rainbow roll had almost a BBQ taste. The only good thing we had was the sake. If you are a foodie and love fresh fish, this is not it. A wasted $240 for two people. I wish I could have my money back and taken it somewhere else.

We spent $250 with no alcohol for two. We expected a very cool, upscale ambience and experience. The base interior is very old and worn and tired, but has been beautifully remodeled in front. Unfortunately most of the seating is in a large room in back that feels like a low to mid-end cafeteria. The food was very uneven, often with heavy overpowering sauces. In particular, the tempura was soggy and poorly done.
