We ate on the terrace. It was beautiful. They had live music. The food was delicious. Very pricey. The steak special was $78.

My wife and friend split a salad and the salmon dinner. I chose the burgundy, short ribs and Caesar salad. Everything was delicious!

Food was outstanding let’s start there. Our 7 PM reservation became a 745 seat with the major day Bisco telling us that’s the way it is. The waiter took a while to get to us and then he finally took our order and told us all about the specials, we asked him to make sure there were some left and he told us it was plenty. After we ordered, it came back and said they were sold out . All in all it was a great meal, but I still think they’re getting the kinks out and that’s OK Post Ian.

We enjoyed our experience immensely, especially considering the other options in the area. The outside deck had windbreaks and heaters, making us very comfortable on a blustery evening. We had the duck and the blackened snapper, which were both very good. We are planning to return tonight!

Last night was a miss for us. Service was unacceptably slow. After 15 min of being seated I went to the bar, but there was no bar tender. The host asked me what I needed so I told her I just would like to order drinks and by this time 20 min had passed. She had to go looking for our server, who she found at a table who arrived after us. We ended up ordering drinks and our meal at the same time. Food was paced ok considering the slow start. Drinks were often empty. With a 7:45p reservation we weren’t eating until 9p. We understand the challenges with staffing and running a resort far from a population base. At the same time all the tables were reservations. Food was generally good though. I enjoyed the wedge. The Caesar seemed good. Dishes came hot and generally well seasoned except for the lobster corn chowder which I feel is under seasoned. Fish was cooked properly. My choice, grouper, was unavailable. Substituting snapper for grouper at the same price because it’s “American snapper”? They said they couldn’t get grouper, but we’re local, our fish market has very nice flash frozen grouper year round. If you can’t get it, pull it, run special’s or let us know when you share things like the daily steak. We skipped dessert and coffee (we’re dessert eaters) as it just got too late.

Once again, we completely enjoyed our evening at the Old Captiva House. Year in and year old, this restaurant proves to be one of, if not the best, dining experiences on Captiva. The food, service and ambience are all outstanding and something we look forward to each year. The food, outdoor dining and great staff combine to make for a wonderful evening.

Whenever we visit Capitiva we always save a night for the Old Captiva House. The food never disappoints and everyone is so friendly. Lamb chops were the choice for this evening, and they were fixed to perfection. A little expensive but what isn't these days? Can't wait to return.
