Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Jason Peel

From the OpenTable editors: Chef Jason Peel is known nationally as the former executive chef for Roy’s Waikiki and beloved locally as a cooking instructor at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. He opened his own restaurant Nami Kaze in 2022, quickly scoring a couple of James Beard Award nominations for izakaya-style small plates, both hot and cold, that star ingredients from favorite local farmers and fishermen. Be sure to try the hamachi rolls, plus the honey walnut shrimp stacked on waffles at brunch.

Was surprised to be subjected to a prix fix menu. Missed some of the outstanding entrees that was offered in the past..ex..lilikoi pancakes! Wish they could have offered some side dishes. Did enjoy the beet salad, the gazpacho, the burger.

We ordered the pork belly but didn’t realize that it now comes with congee; it was good. But we had also ordered rice which then was superfluous, and we had to take that home. The sauce for the lobster pasta was tasty, the lobster itself was okay. We also had the eggplant salad which was okay and the kanpachi and hamachi sushi which was good.

Very expensive prix fixe menu for lunch. The pickled beet salad was very good. The fried ginger chicken entree was not. The chicken was very dry and tough. The potato salad was tasteless. Not worth the price. Have a good plate lunch somewhere else.

Waiter was very nice and accommodating with my diet. Unfortunately, some food was very salty, but waiter was nice to bring more sauce to cut the salt and it worked. I was surprised how salty my fries were, but I usually add salt anyway.

We really appreciated the care and concern shown to my wife regarding her gluten and diary sensitivities. Upon our arrival, the hostess asked questions and took notes. The waiter provided a marked-up menu with the dishes crossed out that couldn't accommodate her sensitivities.

Fourth time I’ve eaten there for lunch. The first 3 times were excellent. Today they had a fixed menu for $45. I didn’t like being forced to order a starter, entree and dessert. I don’t eat like that for lunch. Also, the entree I wanted was sold out. I preferred the prior menu that was ala cart.
