The Mountain House has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Serving as a rest stop for travelers, loggers and homesteaders in the Santa Cruz Mountains- we have evolved into a beloved destination known for our Coastal Countryside cuisine and rustic, intimate ambiance. Offering a menu highlighting game meats, locally sourced ingredients, and a curated selection of California and Old World wines, the Mountain House is one of the most unique settings in California. From a roadhouse to fine dining, the unassuming red cabin has stood the test of time along with the majestic redwoods that surround it.

Today, the restaurant is owned and operated by distinguished chefs Dmitry Elperin and William Roberts. We offer a three-course prix fixe menu for in our dining rooms and additionally, we serve an à la carte menu in our bar and lounge, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Mountain House is in a beautiful setting among the trees on Skyline Blvd. in Woodside. The fixed price menu has something for everyone. We had short ribs, chicken, and lamb rack. All entrees were beautifully presented and delicious as were the starters and desserts. Service was excellent. There is an extensive wine and drink list. If you haven’t tried Mountain House, you should. You won’t be disappointed.

Celebrating two family birthdays last night was a perfect experience at The Mountain House. We walked into a glass enclosed room surrounded by the forest with the sun fading in the mountains. Appetizers ordered included fried quail, sushi, and little gem salad with thinly sliced apples, candied walnuts, pomegranate seeds, goat cheese and poppy seed dressing: easily the best salad I've ever had. The entrees were 20 oz rib eye with an incredible sauce and golden, crisp chucks of diced potatoes and roasted fresh asparagus. My Scottish salmon over tender artichokes was sublime, perfectly cooked. The dark chocolate flourless cake was outstanding and I cannot imagine choosing anything else next time although there were many tempting offerings. Last but not least, the service was everything one hopes for...attentive, warm, not rushed.

Hidden Gem! Excellent food, great curated wine and cocktail list excellent bar service and very good table service. Acoustics made hearing a little tough but they were definitely trying to make it work. With a building that old- its worth it to deal with a little noise for such a cool old space.

This is definitely a great restaurant for a special occasion wonderful setting outstanding food and great service. Out the door it will be about $150 per person if you have a few drinks so just be prepared.
