The Mountain House has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Serving as a rest stop for travelers, loggers and homesteaders in the Santa Cruz Mountains- we have evolved into a beloved destination known for our Coastal Countryside cuisine and rustic, intimate ambiance. Offering a menu highlighting game meats, locally sourced ingredients, and a curated selection of California and Old World wines, the Mountain House is one of the most unique settings in California. From a roadhouse to fine dining, the unassuming red cabin has stood the test of time along with the majestic redwoods that surround it.

Today, the restaurant is owned and operated by distinguished chefs Dmitry Elperin and William Roberts. We offer a three-course prix fixe menu for in our dining rooms and additionally, we serve an à la carte menu in our bar and lounge, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Take the scenic route to The Mountain House, where nature, history, and hospitality converge.

A fabulous menu, great service and exquisite dishes. For the 1st course we selected scallops, the butternut squash soup and the pecan crusted quail. Everyone if them was extremely delicious, well balanced and was enjoyed tremendously. We had requested items from the special “game” menu, and even we had a ver late reservation, the chef had maintained a few options for us- all of which were so well cooked; the filet mignon was lean but most tender it melted in your mouth, the Bison and Duck dishes were prepared so expertly and tasted wonderful. For dessert we had, flourless chocolate cake- silky and chocolaty, creme brûlée that was so floral and silky and smooth and every drop was finished and the pistachio cake was tasty as well! The blue velvet cocktail was so unique and aromatic that will be a favorite from now on! The service and hospitality from every member of the staff specially Sebastian was superb and welcoming. We love the restaurant, the forrest room setting, the staff and services, the food and the chef’s talent!

What a charming restaurant nestled in the Redwood trees. It's a bit of a drive from the Peninsula cities (Los Altos, Menlo Park, etc.) but very much worth it. The service was impeccable. The food was all excellent (pork chop, salmon, short rib, venison). Love the 3 course prix fixe menu....not too many courses but enough choices in each "category" (beginning, entree, dessert) for everyone. We were lucky enough to be seated in the Forest Room which has large windows looking out onto the trees - lovely. Fun side note: the restaurant was featured in the old Neil Young video for the song Harvest Moon - check it out on You Tube.

The scallop appetizer was amazing. The texture was perfect and the trays delicious. I am pescatarian and they were easily able to accommodate me by replacing the cabbage with bacon which came with the salmon with some lovely root vegetables.

Mountain House was wonderful. Food and service were perfection. One of the best dinners we have had. Our server Robin was very knowledgeable and great at helping us decide. Looking forward to going back again for our next special occasion.

Excellent service. Beautiful setting. Servings are of only moderate size given prices. Wine prices are particularly high. The beet amuse boy he with lemon crème was a heavenly starter. But the squash soup was heavy with sugar and the pork chop was undercooked. Scallops were tasty and short rib was wonderfully tender. Crème brûlée was soupy and couldn’t find the “molten lava” in the chocolate cake.
