Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Anthony Bonett

From the OpenTable editors: One of Philadelphai's most unique dining experiences, Moshulu brings diners aboard the deck of a more-than-century-old ship that's been docked on the Delaware for upscale seafood since 1996. The landmark restaurant, featured in movies like "Rocky" and "The Godfather Part II," serves up standout dishes like an “Admiral’s Plateau” of oysters, crab mac and cheese, and lobster frites.

Paid for the NYE VIP firework experience, which included a reserved table, drinks, buffet, and passed hors d’oeuvres. The buffet was good but we kept getting the wrong drinks were passed by much of the staff passing out hors d’oeuvres. Not sure if certain staff were supposed to pass to certain areas but we had a few stop before our section of tables and never saw those options come to our area at all. Others quickly walked past just yelling out if anyone wants the hors d’oeuvres and were gone before anyone could really respond. In total we had only been served about half of what we saw going around. After we got another round of wrong drinks we decided to ask for new ones and in return we got more champagne despite us not drinking the ones we already had at the table followed by the wrong drink again. I’m sure the bar was busy but getting the wrong drinks multiple times is excessive, especially when we only ordered from the list of the five new years cocktails, never even managed to get one of them after three tries. At several points when we returned to our table we had strangers in our seats and had to ask them to leave which was surprising since we still had our drinks and some food at the table. Saw this happen to others as well and staff had to be called to get their table back from other people. Overall it felt like an unorganized mess and a waste of money. Would’ve been a better experience to have eaten elsewhere and then came for the fireworks at the lower price option.

For 250.00 a ticket, I expected more. True, it was New Year's Eve, but this event was awful. We were presented with a buffet of dry salmon, bland pastas, and a variety of weird side additions. Drinks were plentiful, but you had to wait long for service. Those of us who are not heavy drinkers were looking for more. In fact, we had to ask, hunt down, beg for dessert! Finally, we were given a small plate of tasteless cookies! (Not worth the calories!) Dancing was just as bad. You couldn't find the more energetic dance floor. After climbing steps and pushing through crowds of revelers, who I believe wandered in off the streets to get a quick drink at the bar, we found the D.J. It was cold, rainy, and slippery! The event was disorganized with few directions regarding where the dance floors were, when to eat, how to get to bathrooms, etc. Oh, did I mention the fee for parking doubled? The information initially posted said parking would be 20.00 dollars but turned out to be 40.00 dollars. My husband and I remember NYE ten years ago at this same restaurant. It was lovely! My, times have changed. Should have stayed local and, maybe, had a better time for a less amount of money!

We heard so many great things about the food , I guess because it was a buffet, it was subpar. We also paid VIP pricing for a table for the evening, which was taken away at 10pm. I'm genuinely disappointed that we paid extra for the dinner and table, and both were not worth it. The regular ticket for just the party and open bar was probably a better deal.

The atmosphere was absolutely wonderful for New Year’s Eve. Fireworks were sensational our server Tatyanna was exceptional. I have to say the food was low par, but we went for the excitement of the fireworks!

We went to Moshulu for a NYE dinner and specified on the reservation that we are vegetarian, went in and said that to the hostess, and then specified multiple times to our waitress. She did not have the vegetarian menu available and only had one vegetarian option, which was contrary to what was told prior to our attendance. Then, the kicker - they brought out bread with tuna on it, which we assumed was mushroom until trying it. Upon realizing that we had been brought fish, we asked for the waitress, who said "You are not obligated to eat that, but we serve it to every table" with absolutely no regard for our value system or the fact that it had been violated.

Me and my boyfriend decided to eat in this restaurant for the suggestive location but I have to say that also the food was really good. What we took was satisfying: the mussels were very fresh and also the halibut was great. The non-fish options were also good. Service was enjoyable but very discreet, which allowed us to have enjoy the night together and we really appreciated that. We had a great time and part of it was thanks to the staff; we asked a couple of pictures and they were really nice and had no problem doing that. We would just give a couple tips for the restaurant. We thought that it would be great to implement tablecloths on the restaurant’s tables to make it even nicer than it already is. A second tip is to offer some type of discount or a small tasting of another dish if the item requested by costumers is no longer available or cannot be prepared. Other than that our experience was very satisfying.
