About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for fine wines
The Merrijig Kitchen is housed in the historic Merrijig Inn {1842), known as Victoria's oldest Inn. Situated across from the Port Fairy wharf, in the heart of gorgeous Port Fairy.
We are HIGH on atmosphere and write our menu daily, after Tanya chats with our fish monger, veggie growers, local butcher and any of our wonderful local gardeners who may pop in with their backgarden produce.
We spend a lot of time on our drinks program, offering our local Henty wine region producers, smattered between regional and international producers adhering to organic and biodynamic practises.
We love a bespoke cocktail, which we make inspired by our garden and of course, offer local artisan beer on tap.
Pop in, we'd love to see you whilst you are enjoying Port Fairy!

As little on the menu appealed I explained this as I eat veggie they asked what I would like I said eggs or salads etc, no alterenative offered except the starter section. When the bread ran out at breakfast was told no more other people had eaten it!!!!!!!!! Customer service is obviously low on thier list

We went to the Merrigig kitchen on a recommendation, for my 70 th birthday and we were not disappointed. Right from the lovely welcome from the staff and the ‘moody’ ambience of the dining room we were ready for a fabulous night. The food was delicious. Service was excellent and the birthday cake organised with little notice was the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had. Thank you to all the staff for making my birthday extra special.

What a sweet find! Actually, if the inn host had not clued us in on this opportunity to dine with them we may have missed out. The T-bone steak was perfectly seasoned and prepared… mouthwatering! And the duck fat fried potatoes…you had me at “duck fat “. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to dine in this charming establishment with delightful service and exquisite cuisine!

The restaurant was intimate with only 6 or 7 tables, so you have to make a booking. The food was very good, and I liked that the chef incorporated as much produce as they grow themselves into the dishes, which made them eclectic. The lamb was a little sparce for the price but tasty, nevertheless. The starters were amazing. And the wine list had a lot of interesting local wines from the west. But the standout was a 1995 high-end clean skin offering from Best's winery. Although not cheap, was an incredible, one-off find, and so worth it. Amazing! The wait staff were friendly and efficient too. So, all in all, a really nice fine dining experience.

We got a last minute booking for a table of 8 celebrating a 30th birthday and lucked out with our own private seating area. Staff went out of their way to make the birthday girl feel special! It was a lovely evening with beautiful, fresh food and we all had a great time.

The service was great as was the wine list. The menu is limited and, although well presented, perhaps a little overpriced.
