   We gave Max's Tavern one more try after a previous "off" experience a couple of years ago. But, alas, disappointment again. Service was lacking even after letting the hostess know that we were celebrating a special birthday; we waited too long for a server upon being seated and subsequently had to chase her down once or twice during the meal. The food was good but could have been hotter. All in all--given the celebratory nature of our visit--we were let down given the general lack of attention and care. And with guests from Boston and Manhattan who have regular access to great restaurants, we hoped Max's could do better. With a few other choices in downtown Springfield, Max's Tavern will not be at the top of our list in the future.

   Staff very professional. Food - above average selection and preparation. We stopped for happy hour before the candlelight show. Had a dozen oysters at a “buck a shuck”. Tasty, good sized oysters, but too much broken shell. After show we came back for dinner. Of course we’re very hungry now! Waitress said she’d be right back with some bread for us. By the time we received the bread, our dinner was served before we could even reach for the bread. Bad timing there. Staff seemed very busy and stressed as if it were an extremely busy night, but there were a LOT of empty tables. I got the chicken Parmesan, it was ok, not great, my husband got the shrimp farfalle, he said it was good. We would definitely go back for happy hour, dinner not so sure.

   We celebrated our anniversary there last night and it was phenomenal. The food was outstanding. Our server was fantastic. I cannot say enough about how great our experience was last night.

   Steak was ordered MR, came MW. We ordered an iceburge wedge, wasn't sure if it was on the menu or not (I used to be) regardless the waiter obliged and a romain lettuce thing showed up, underdressed and under inspired. It was awful.

   Incredible food and service. It asked before booking my reservation what the occasion was. I selected birthday. When we were seated, the host brought a birthday card over with many staff signatures. I thought this was such an incredible touch and it makes me want to come back. The thoughtfulness they put in is unmatched.

    I love the place. Jack did an excellent job waiting on us. The food was good, did not feel rushed at all, comfortable atmosphere and relaxing feel.
