My wife and I have eaten at Maverick a half a dozen times over the years, starting when they first opened. Each time we've been back, the experience has been progressively more disappointing. In fact, the last time we went, about a year ago, we swore we'd never go back. The service was so poor that I asked to speak to a manager, who gave a half-hearted apology. Today we were in Southtown to see some art and decided to give Maverick another chance. It proved to be a big mistake. My first clue about the kind of experience it was going to be should have been when we walked in the door and the hostess greeted us. Well, to say "greet" is being generous, because what she actually did was look at us, unsmiling, and without so much as a hello, just asked if we had reservations. Our server was friendly and attentive, but the food was mediocre and very overpriced. I had a burger and fries. The fries were good, but the burger was very ordinary. My wife had an omelette that she said was nothing more than eggs and cheese (none of the advertised herbs seemed to be anywhere). Her side salad was simply a handful of greens that looked like they'd come directly from a plastic bag at HEB. Our meals, with two iced teas and a basket of bread was over $60 with tip. Our reservation was at noon on a Saturday and when we walked in there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant. During the hour we were there, not another soul came in. The emptiness of the restaurant should have been another clue. We won't be back, and if they don't get their stuff together, I predict they'll shutter their doors before Summer.

Visited Texas Brasserie and had Josiah as a server who is just lovely and paced the meal perfectly. The Calamari was light crispy and spiced just enough and the gouchers with butternut squash soup and duck breast were all spectacular. Firmly on the highly recommend list! Thank you for a phenomenal meal!

This place had reservations when all other restaurants were full. The reason for this - Open Table did not disclose that this meal would be a $100 a person. If you have an enemy specifically your worst enemy, send them here. My family and I came for a New Year’s Eve dinner. Ambiance is nice, staff is kind and friendly, however your food will make you think the restaurant is pulling a fast one on you. 4 course meal that’s pre planned. If I’m paying 25$ a plate for 5 people I want a board for my charcuterie board. Food was awful!!

Went for NYE prefix, Cold soup, cold steak, mediocre wine pairing, much better places in town. Sad, cause I used to love this spot.

My husband and I rarely go out to eat especially on a holiday because we are always disappointed. We had never been to dinner service at Maverick only lunch so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Reservation was seamless with flexibility to sit at the bar and have a drink before being seated. The fixed menu had a great selection for our diverse palates. Every plate was excellent and I wasn't insulted by enormous nor tiny portions. Service was fantastic on all levels. The price was a bit expensive but what do you expect for New Year's Eve. We'll be back...

This was a very disappointing outing for New Years Eve, and certainly not the experience or quality we expected after hearing favorable feedback/reviews. We had a party of 7 - 4 adults and 3 kiddos (7, 10 and 10) and understood they would have a preset menu which we weren’t overly excited about either way. We chose to go either way based on the reputation. The kids options were worse than the adults with only chicken, steak strips or Mac and cheese, but what was less ideal was getting 2-3 courses as adults while they sat there and watched. So, of course we shared our small plates with them. The charcuterie was small and decent, however the salad and bisque options were horrible - the salad was mixed greens with olive oil and Parmesan cheese/crumbs, exceptionally simple and basic. The bisque was not creamy or smooth and was reminiscent of baby food - not an exaggeration, it was pretty much exactly what it was. The entrees didn’t get any better - we can’t speak to the halibut, but the prime rib was poor at best (chewy/low quality cut) and the duck was foul and very strong and gamy. The evening as topped off by our daughter’s Mac and Cheese coming out with a hair in it and having to be replaced. When we left, our bill for the evening was just shy of $500 for 2 adults and 3 children (the other couple with us were on a separate tab). A bit higher due to 2 drinks per adult. You would expect that a top rated restaurant would not take advantage of a holiday rush to impose such a poor experience for a family dishing out $500 for a nice meal and experience. The only true highlight was the chocolate cake and kids ice cream(s). Those are low highlights for that size check - very disappointing…..

Some dishes were delicious, others were bland and flavorless. Would not recommend the duck. We were place out in a back room which was OK (late reservation), but the waiter forgot about us. He made it up with free desert. That was nice and appreciated. They were out of the dish I came to try. Overall I could have skipped this one.

The Maverick in San Antonio’s King William district offers a truly delightful dining experience. If you’re planning a visit, I recommend using their valet service, which may be more affordable than other parking options in the area. Arriving early is a great idea to enjoy their expertly crafted cocktails, created by talented mixologists. We visited for the first time with my mother-in-law, and the ambience was perfect—made even more special by the festive Christmas decor. We arrived as soon as their bar opened at 4 PM and enjoyed cocktails before our 5 PM dinner reservation. Their drink menu is exceptional, with the Carajillo standing out as a must-try. This creamy, luscious espresso cocktail is both a visual treat to watch being prepared and an absolute delight to sip. The dinner menu is a la carte, complemented by an expansive selection of European wines. Every dish we tried was delicious, but the hazelnut balsamic Brussels sprouts deserve special mention—crispy, flavorful, and absolutely unforgettable. The attentive and helpful staff rounded out our wonderful experience. We can’t wait to return to enjoy more of what The Maverick has to offer!
