   I had my birthday brunch here, they had a birthday card waiting for me which I found so sweet. The food was amazing. We all enjoyed our meals. The service was good and overall we had a great time.

   Great central spot with nice decor. Decent portion sizes but presentation and quality of cooking was surprisingly mediocre at breakfast, e.g. my fried eggs were burnt and what could have been thick and crusty sourdough toast was overly charred. Focussing too much on a food styling photo and video shoot seemingly detracted from the customer experience. The staff was kind but their energy was elsewhere engaged.

   I had booked a reservation 3 weeks prior to celebrate mine and my boyfriends anniversary at 7pm. We had arrived 10 minutes early and were told it would be another 5 minutes for our seats to open up. This was understandable as we were early, and we went to go wait in the entranceway. About 7 minutes later, the hostess came out and told us it would another 25 minutes before our reserved bar seats would be ready. This would have put us well past our reservation time, but fortunately, the hostess offered for us to instead be seated in their second downstairs restaurant “sidecar” instead of waiting for our table. The hostess brought us downstairs and sat us at the only available bar seats, taking our coats to the coat rack. We were immediately disappointed with our seats as not more than 12 inches in front of one of the seats was a 3 foot square column that blocked us of any view of the bar area and left us with little counter space as it went about halfway into what counter space was at the bar seats. After a server asked provided us with water, we were not acknowledged again nor provided with any sort of menu, so we had to ask the bartender, as the hostess never brought any when she sat us. Not a single person mentioned our anniversary despite us mentioning it on the reservation and them confirming it was a special occasion when we received a phone call confirming our reservation a week prior. Feeling neglected, we decided to leave as we came for a memorable experience and were already very disappointed. As we were looking for our coats on the coat rack, a sever came up to ask and asked if we wanted our coats. She then went back into a different room where our coats were just thrown onto a chair and gave them to us, saying bye, not once asking why we were leaving so soon. We walked out and went somewhere else, very upset with our night so far and feeling deliberately ignored as we were younger and less “posh” than the average person in the restaurant.

   I’ve been a loyal fan of Mati for years, recommending it to everyone I know, so it’s with regret that I write this review. Unfortunately, my recent visit was far from what I’ve come to expect, espeially after hearing similar feedback from a friend who visited the previous weekend. We made a reservation online for a table, specifically not the bar, as it was our anniversary. Upon arrival, the hostess, with a deadpan personality, told us that tables reserved online are not guaranteed, and none were available. She seated us at the bar, at the worst possible spot, right at the front of the kitchen where staff constantly walked in and out. There were two open spots at the other end of the bar, but when we asked to sit there, she claimed those were reserved and didn’t offer alternatives. After we pressed, she begrudgingly moved us. Throughout our meal, we noticed a table for two behind us, as well as another nearby table, remained empty the entire time, leading us to suspect that was the table we originally booked. The service at the bar, while friendly, was understandably less attentive than a dedicated server might have been. We ordered the burrata to start, but it never arrived. After waiting 50 minutes, all of our food came at once, which was frustrating since we were quite hungry. That said, the food was delicious. However, the bathroom was beyond disappointing. I found a tissue with what looked like blood from a nosebleed on the floor in one stall, and the other stall had a large hole in the wall with an exposed light socket with no light. This was disappointing for a restaurant with such high ratings—it felt more like a cheap bar than a fine dining establishment. When spending hundreds of dollars at a restaurant rated so high, you would expect stellar service, and clean facilities. Perhaps Mati should invest in more cleaning staff, hosts that are more agreeable and friendly, and find a better way to manage their online reservations. We will unfortunately not be

   Excellent meal tonight at Mati's -chicken was succulent and duck was amazing. Portions were large but meant for sharing. Our server, Veronica was wonderful -solicitous of our party and helpful with the menu. Volume level got a bit high as we were in the bar section but it is difficult to find quiet restaurants these days.

   Absolutely incredible steak and sides. The arancini was probably the best we have eaten. Drinks were perfect and served by a knowledgable and friendly bartender. The husband and wife owners were both on site and very friendly and gracious. These people know how to provide their guests with an amazing experience. We will be back.

    Mati is usually top tier for food and service however my last experience was one of the worst I’ve ever had. I showed up to my reservation 10 mins late, when I got there I waited to be greeted by a hostess for about 5 minutes. Then she explained my table still wasn’t ready (even though I was already 10 mins late) so we could wait at the bar if we wanted. I got to the bar, 15 mins went by and no bartender came to take a drink order. When we finally got to order our drinks, we ordered 3 different cocktails and each time we ordered one they said they didn’t have the stuff to make it. We did not get our table until 30 minutes after our reservation was made and got no apology or acknowledgement about the poor service. By the time we got our food orders in it was almost an hour and a half after our reservation was made. The restaurant appeared very busy and may have been understaffed but there are better ways to go about this than ignoring us. The food is always amazing but the service level is awful for the price you are paying to dine there.
