Masuya Restaurant is located in a building, which has been designated as a cultural asset, on O’Connell Street in Sydney. This is the same place as the office of Kanematsu Gosho, the pioneer of Australia – Japan trades, was situated in 1980. Masuya Restaurant opened in 1993, then full renovation was implemented in 2006.

The approx. five meters long sushi counter, designed by architect Robert Toland in ‘kabuki red’ with an idea of the stage of kabuki, has since fascinated not only local Australian customers but also various people with different backgrounds.

A showcase displays more than 20 different sushi ingredients everyday including locally produced fish, which is purchased on the day. Other carefully selected ingredients are wagyu beef, free-range pork, and seasonal vegetables. Specially designed tableware of Malcolm Greenwood and tables made of Tasmanian Oak is also creating a great atmosphere. Enjoy your time in this amazing space of hospitality.

Just hard to hear the person on the other side of the table as the noise is really bad when it is full. Otherwise the food is great and the service is the best.

Outstanding as always, everyone in our group always orders the Shogun Bento for our annual end of year lunch. The quality of food and the service are both fantastic in this underground hidden gem.

Food was good, Riata the waitress was excellent BUT we specifically requested a slow meal to enjoy the experience. Riata did request this to the kitchen. Lost in translation! All dishes came out in the one delivery from the kitchen so the food was cold by the time we ate most of it. Not the standard of service expected from a up market Japanese restaurant the noise level was dreadful. Surely some sound attenuation treatment can be done at reasonable cost.

Lovely to find this restaurant. Great value with L staff who are efficient yet very friendly and warm. Food was excellent too.

we ordered a Sashimi boat, but the oysters didnt taste fresh most disappointing is the Sushi rolls, the rice is definitely not sushi rice, tasted overcooked...really the worst sushi we ever had in a Jap restaurant Ordered Karrage CK, tasted so rough Even the Free Range Pork Loin, didnt taste very tender or juicy.. disappointing experience

Sean who served our table was exceptional. Both Aussie & Japanese enjoyed his company. He's very friendly & exceptional. He did above & beyond for our requests. Food was amazing & I felt like I was in Japan!
