Opened in 2010 and relocated to its current location in 2014, Marlowe is a New American bistro located in San Francisco’s Soma neighborhood in the former COCO500 space.

Brought to you by Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio and award-winning San Francisco designer Ken Fulk, Marlowe focuses on classic comfort foods with flavorful twists, like Chef Puccio’s signature Marlowe Burger, seasonal poulet vert, brussels sprouts chips and quail egg topped steak tartare.

Taking inspiration from the butcher shops of the past, Marlowe is designed with a sleek but comfortable feel, featuring white subway tiles, white marble, deep blue banquettes, wood block tables and specials listed on rolls of butcher paper.

Food and service was fantastic and the drinks were great. The noise was so bad tho, we had to shout to hear each other almost the entire meal!

I used to love going to Marlowe, and just went back yesterday after several years. I still loved it. I’m going back more often. The food, drinks, service and ambiance are all excellent.

It’s a tiny place . It’s expensive and the noise level inside is off the charts . Have to yell to have a lunchtime conversation. Even when the lunch crowd send out, they turn the music up to compensate. BUT… hands down MARLOWE has THE best gourmet burger and fries in San Francisco. Good desserts too. yummy & very attentive waiters .

Excellent food! One of the best burgers and shrimp cocktails in SF—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared.

Burger was less impressive than usual and they ran out of fries as lunch. Something was off.

I ordered chorizo baked eggs. There was NO chorizo it was substituted with shredded beef. It was obviously the left overs from the week baked eggs vs what was depicted on the menu. I would have said something but I was a guest and didn’t want to embarrass the person paying. I also recommend the burger to two of the people. Neither liked it. Too much horseradish. Such a disappointment. Will not be going back. Restaurant wasn’t even full for brunch. I guess the writing is on the wall.

My favorite thing about Marlowe is that they continue to offer the brilliant dessert of their predecessors, the Vacherin. This is the best dessert ever. It has the perfect balance of textures (from crunchiness of the toasted almonds and the meringue contrasted with the softness of the ice cream) to the sweet and bitter (of the chocolate sauce and the coffee ice cream) to the hot and the cold temperatures (the hot chocolate sauce and the ice cream), it is a complete delight. Their other food is also good. I do think the poulet vert should come with accompanying bread (or at minimum a spoon). There is so much soupy goodness that accompanies the chicken, that it makes sense to pair it with something that can soak it all up. Their salad is a bit small for the $20 cost -- it is more like a side salad you'd get as part of an entree, but it is delicious. The service is attentive and professional, and the space is tasteful and cozy without being too closed in (the enormous windows to the street provide an openness and a little "street theater" while eating.
