Great service, excellent wine, pasta dishes not to the quality you would expect for this price. Theo Randall and Angela Hartnett put Margot to shame. Which is a shame as a stunning interior! Just needs to concentrate on getting the simple basics stunning

Our experience at Margot was shambolic. Given the reputation of the establishment, we were truly dismayed. 1) I observed a staff member enjoying some wine on the job, as well as hushed bickering between two staff members at the bar directly in front of my seat 2) When my friend choked on a sip of wine, the bar staff laughed through this. The sommelier continued talking at my friend and I about the bottle until I sharply requested water for my friend 3) The food was remarkably average and much of it served lukewarm 4) When a staff member informed us our table was ready early, we explained that we were still waiting for a friend, but it would be great if we could still be seated. The staff member replied she would escort us to our table, so we stood up, but were left awkwardly standing and waiting for her return. When we called over a different staff member, they went to confer, returned and said, aren't you still waiting for your friend? Later in that evening, we were told that as we had gotten our table early, we need to clear out early. When we asked for clarity on this, we were told to ignore that comment 5) Our complaints relayed to the GM were met only with a casual and dismissive apology with no real form of appeasement 6) Our bill was slapped onto our table without a word and without being requested, whilst we were mid conversation at the table. This is how one may be expected to be treated had one not been consistently ordering food and drink throughout the evening (which was certainly not the case) 7) Upon leaving, after being handed back our coats from the cloakroom and thanking the staff including the GM at the door, the GM insultingly asked to confirm that we had settled our bill I hope nobody invests the amount of money we did into an evening and endures an experience as dismal. What a disheartening way to spend time with close friends whom do not get to see eachother often anymore. A minimal level of kindness and respect would not have gone amiss.

Gorgeous food but the service was meh bordering on rude and slow. We were seated downstairs and despite it being Valentine’s Day the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy and our table had occasional blasts of cold air coming down the stairs. It’s fine and we had a fun night but I don’t think I’d go back in a hurry.

Our sommelier was lovely, however our waitress was really impatient. when we were ordering our mains, she was walking off before we finished saying our sides, and not to our surprise she had forgotten one of our sides and when we had a asked after it, she said that we had made no such order with her.. even though both did. If you’re going to have high in food and high-end ambience, it’s important to also have consistent staff who are patient enough to remember a full order. When our potatoes came, they were clearly reheated as it was extremely hot inside and lukewarm on the outside.

Such a sophisticated restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden. Staff are very attentive and service is good. It is a bit expensive but that reflects the quality of the food, interior and service. I would highly recommend it for special occasions.
