By Renowned Mexican Chef, Enrique Olvera, Manta is the culinary centerpiece of The Cape, A Thompson Hotel. With an intriguing double meaning, the manta ray symbolizes the kitchen"s focus on seafood, while manta, the Spanish word for blanket, conveys the chef's emphasis on comfort. Acknowledge by the New York Times for his "way of confirming and subverting expectations of Mexican food at the same time," Olvera has drawn inspiration from the izakaya tradition to introduce a pan-Pacific concept of Mexican cuisine. The intimate, richly textured space features a dramatic exhibition kitchen and a curated beverage menu focused on mezcals, tequilas and sakes.

I have been wanting to eat at Manta for several years but it never worked out until last night. Here is my overall take away. The tasting menu is way over priced for what you get. The short rib bao buns were phenomenal!! I will def order those again and I will tell you how at the end of my review. The hummus and vegetables was also good. They serve meals with four salsa ranging from mild to spicy and upon request, a fifth salsa (called “black tears”) is available. Every one of the salsas were delicious. Black tears was very yummy but unbelievably spicy! For the mains, we ordered the sweet potato in mole (one reason I wanted to go to Manta) and the chili crusted rib eye with dirty rice and guacamole. Neither of the mains were great and the rib eye was inedible (hard and tasteless). However the dirty rice and guacamole were very good. The desserts included a yogurt with fruit and a miso dark chocolate flan. The flan was outstanding. To sum up, I would not return to Manta for dinner as there are other upscale places in Cabo with better food (Comal being one). But I would order the bao buns, the guacamole and the flan for a light dinner. They are worth it!

Everything about this restaurant was amazing… It’s a great view. Great surface, and the food was spectacular. We also got engaged there, so I guess that has a certain to every category but the food was for sure to die for!! And it’s awesome to be able to go to the rooftop before or after dinner!!

La comida no está a la altura, por mucho, de un restaurant Michelin. Pobre en sabor y en ejecución y muy muy sobrevalorada.

This is an architecturally beautiful building and dining space. We were seated outside on the patio with a sunset view of CSL and the arch - amazing. We got the the tasting menu and each course was fantastic. Creative, flavorful, beautiful presentation. This was an A+ overall experience and we will return for more.

Great view, beautiful sunset, attentive service. Food was terrible. We ordered the fish tacos and the addition of hoisin sauce made it strangely sweet. Carnitas bao was just bad. Mushroom dumplings were basically chopped up mushrooms in a dumpling. Didn’t taste seasoned at all. The only decent dish was the tuna sashimi. But it’s hard to mess up sashimi when the only requirement of the chef is the ability to use a knife. All in all an extremely disappointing meal. Come for a glass of wine and the view. Anything more will make you sad.
