L'Escargot is London's oldest and most celebrated French restaurant serving classic French provincial dishes. It also has a great cocktail bar with reasonably priced cocktails and all day dining. Upstairs in the cocktail Bar there are live music acts every weekend.

The restaurant has welcomed luminaries such as Coco Chanel, Charles de Gaulle, Maurice Chevalier, Laurence Olivier, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon. Princess Diana was a regular and to this day the restaurant is the home of many celebrated personalities.

It is located close to all the major West-End theatres, which makes it an excellent pre and post theatre dining spot.

Love the food and the ambience has a very homely feel without the faff of entertaining at home. There for Sunday lunch excellent value.

This was our favorite restaurant in London. An exquisite French Bistro with a charming atmosphere and simply delicious food; escargot especially favorable. The matre’d, whom I later found out was the owner, graciously arranged for a car to take us to our hotel when absolutely no taxi was available. We gratefully appreciated his thoughtfulness. Definitely a must visit restaurant in London Dr. Morrison Bethea New Orleans, LA, USA

Everything is outstanding. I had the lobster bisque and the halibut. I love the vibe, the service, the food, the art, the location. A soho institution. Fabulous

A truly excellent lunch at L’Escargot yesterday - superb onion soup, confit duck, salmon and lemon tart. This is highly skilled cooking of classic French dishes, supported by expert and attentive service. We first ate here nearly 40 years ago, when it was superb, and it’s a joy to see the restaurant so accomplished again under its current team.

Lovely London night out in a great traditional venue. Your coat is taken as soon as you arrive and you are handed a numbered token, then the Maitre d (the owner) welcomes you at the entry desk letting you know when your table is ready. You are then taken through into one of several lovely old fashioned but well maintained rooms and seated at your table. You are presented with the menu which is all classic French fare - bisque, crab mayonnaise, pate etc, with mains including halibut, duck confit, cassoulet, lobster and more. The wine list is not extensive, but affordable with red wines from memory priced at between the late £20’s up to £300, so not too bad for a central london location. Desserts are also lovely pear and apple tart, tarte de citron and so on. All relatively simple dishes but cooked perfectly from my experience and that of my fellow guests. A lovely, classic London night out. We will be back.

Lovely place to have a pre theatre meal. Beautiful surroundings and whilst menu is limited, food quality is excellent. Lemon tart is one of the next I’ve ever had.
