L'Escargot is London's oldest and most celebrated French restaurant serving classic French provincial dishes. It also has a great cocktail bar with reasonably priced cocktails and all day dining. Upstairs in the cocktail Bar there are live music acts every weekend.

The restaurant has welcomed luminaries such as Coco Chanel, Charles de Gaulle, Maurice Chevalier, Laurence Olivier, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon. Princess Diana was a regular and to this day the restaurant is the home of many celebrated personalities.

It is located close to all the major West-End theatres, which makes it an excellent pre and post theatre dining spot.

We brought our dog. We were treated with respect and kindness. Our dog was brought 3 bones and all the waiters petted her. We didnt come here because of the accommodation of our dog. It is a beautiful restaurant, with great service and ambience and the food (we hadn’t had Sunday lunch here before) was delicious. We had beef cooked to 3 different levels and all 3 were perfect. Just loved it all Thank you!

To be told that you only have 20 minutes to go and then you must vacate the table is a very strong incentive never to come back to this restaurant. Disappointment is an understatement.

We are sorry that you are disappointed. At the time of making your booking we told you the time at which we required the table back and you agreed to that. We allowed you extra time and had guests waiting for the table. Fortunately, they were very understanding and didn't mind waiting a little. You ate three course and had coffee, and were not rushed. We do appreciate that the atmosphere at L'Escargot is so wonderful that sometimes it's hard to go - but all good things come to an end. Generally, we let guests stay as long as they like, and often we can juggle things around so that those who want more time can stay but it is very difficult in the run up to Christmas as there is such huge demand. We are sorry that you gave our friendly waiting team only 1/5 stars. Best wishes ...@/"...@/"

I’ve lived in London for decades but have never been to L’Escargot until last night. We had the pre-theatre prix fix menu and chose the French Onion Soup, confit of duck and the tarte au citron. All utterly out of this world. The best of each I’ve ever had. The menu was extremely reasonably priced at £30 for three courses and the waiters were prompt and attentive. I loved the ambience of the place, with a traditional French decor, brightened by gorgeous artwork. Top marks, L’Escargot. A wonderful dinner to round off a lovely day.

A lovely evening at L'Escargot with two old friends. An early birthday treat. Food was tasty but the service was inattentive and slow, with us having to ask several times for basic things like salt and water. The total bill for 2 courses for 3, six drinks and some sides was £374! This included nearly £50 for 'service' which I think is excessive and unwarranted. I wish I had challenged it and in different circumstances I think I would have. Do better L'Escargot.

Absolutely superb in almost every way. Wonderful restaurant! Food and wine World Class ! Fabulous experience with important clients! The only small thing that would have made it absolutely perfect is if the waiter had spoken French. I love to speak French in a French restaurant The waiter himself was great!

It had been over 20 years since I last ate here and it was great to see that it was as charming as I recall. Wonderful ambience, good food ( although halibut was a tad over cooked but everything else was delicious) a surprisingly good value wine list and friendly service. Will not leave it another 20 years for sure.
