The restaurant was closed but the reservation was still automatically confirmed. I wasted time and money driving and parking; there is no notice of any closures on any social media pages or their website. I shouldn’t have had to call to confirm a “confirmed reservation”. Very disappointed; ruined my date night and one of the very few attempts I’ve made to eat out in the past year.

This restaurant was closed when I arrived for our reservation. Very disappointed that they are still accepting OpenTable reservations despite being closed. No indication that they were closed on their website or Facebook, either, which was extra disappointing. This really threw a wrench in our date night and although we still ended up having a nice time elsewhere, we were both highly disappointed.

Can’t give it a fair review. As although we made a reservation the restaurant was closed. As a result was not able to try it. It would have been nice if I received a call or e-mail to let me know.

Au Chalet is meant as a particular experience. My girlfriend and I went for an intimate Valentine’s Day dinner, and we were warmly greeted by the Swiss & French gentlemen who run the establishment and waited on us as a team throughout the evening. The lighting, decor (replete with roses at every table) and music made for a most romantic time - even before the fondue had arrived. The menu is, admittedly, limited. You have a choice between the fondue and the raclette (along with a salad as an appetizer and chocolate or lemon tart for desert). We opted for the former, along with two glasses of wine (from a similarly limited selection, though the red and the white were both quite tasty). The cheese was a time and a half. They kept bringing more and more bread our way as if to ensure that we died of carbohydrate poisoning later in the night. When we passed on dessert, they still brought out some chocolate brittle for us to nibble on. I’d say the place is well worth the venture when you are looking for something different – a hidden gem that upholds New Haven’s diverse and excellent culinary brand. The owner and his crew will make you feel more than welcome.

start with 1 star for decor. upon opening the door it seemed like we entered a mountain hut. nice. Last Saturday (feb. 1, 2020) evening however, totally lacking any seasoning... while this maybe classic as a dinner entree in Switzerland ....a bore stateside. salt & pepper perhaps an herb? also, during my research before heading there i read reviewed: great assortment of beers (only 4 listed & was told that they only had Leffe, which i had), 1 picture showed a fine assortment of charcuterie and another shown a proper melting system... we were given a toaster oven to cook our own pre-sliced cheese... looking like the same raclette one can pick-up at Trader Joe's for $5.99 per half pound. i could've made this same thing at home for a total of $10 for the 3 of us, not $72. with my beer & 1 glass of wine i walked out paying over $100 with tip (why i did tip i don't know)... not much or average for a typical dinner: however, this was robbery. ending with 1 star for decor. saddened.

Great ambiance and a wonderful social meal to share with friends. Menu is simple - Raclette or Fondue, both served with traditional accompaniments. Restaurant is very small, so expect an intimate meal. The owner went out of his way to greet us and chat with us - gave me the feeling that we were old friends having dinner at his place.

I feel a little weird having to select a star level for each item, because we never ate there. They changed their menu, they said, but they didn't do do online, and the prices were nearly double what was online. We were going to a concert and didn't want to spend that much, so we left. I noted that they should update their website.

Very quiet restaurant. Great date spot. Pretty pricey. Biggest disappointment is that this restaurant is constantly out of things on the menu. The last few times we have dined here, they did not have shallots for the shallot fondue. This time, we hoped to splurge on chocolate fondue -- only to find out they were out of chocolate. This place is not very busy, and it is disappointing that the management has not figured out how to stock their kitchen.
