Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

Le Yaca lived up to all the hype on social media, Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Open Table. I had booked our reservations 7 months out in advance of our Thanksgiving trip to Williamsburg. Every aspect of our dining experience was great. Check in was easy and pleasant and we were seated promptly. Our server, Gail was cheerful, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. She guided us through the considerable selections and offered the special Belon oyster appetizer to add to our choices. The menu offered the choice of ordering à la carte, 2, 3 ($50 or $65 options), or 5 courses ($90). We opted for the 3 course selection (1 @ $50, 1 @ $65). My choice included a unique preparation of French onion soup (so velvety, cheesy and delicious!), a delicate, flavorful exquisitely prepared Scottish salmon with a buttery lemon sauce and thin, peeled lemon garnish served over a bed of perfectly cooked spinach. Good to the last delectable bite! My husband also enjoyed the French onion soup starter, then the coquilles St. Jacques, a beautifully baked dish of large scallops perfectly cooked with a cheesy crust. Asparagus was an accompaniment. We had also ordered a combination of baked and raw Belon oysters to share. Both were excellent—raw were sweet and plump; baked were also sweet served in a delicate light lemony butter sauce. Desserts were also good. One tiramisu and one very light lemon chiffon concoction served with strawberries and raspberry coulis. Le Yaca—a must for an exceptional dinner! Ask for Gail as your server. She was great!

Ever since we found Le Yaca a year ago on a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, they earned a place on our “must do” lists. The service is impeccable - the food perfectly prepared - somehow managing to be imaginative and classic at the same time. The restaurant is beautiful as well. Cocktails were generous and the prix fixe menu will give you pause, with all the incredible options. Also of note: every single staff person seemed genuinely pleased to have us as guests. Smiles, greetings, and thanks made us feel welcomed into a place they were proud to represent.

I have been going to Le Yaca for years! Their food is amazing and nothing compares. I was disappointed in Paris actually because I compared everything I ate to Le Yaca and nothing came close. That’s why it’s my all time favorite restaurant.

Our first meal at Le Yaca will be long remembered. The onion soup is amazing was were the crab crepes. The lemon sauce on the stuffed flounder was to die for. The creme brûlée was just perfect. A lovely place for an elegant meal.

Food is not as great as it was with previous owners (I understand it changed ownership in 2022 and the food was fantastic prior to that). My husband took a few bites of the pork and stopped eating it. Scallops were OK but one was not cleaned to get all the sand off of it. We were seated in the bar area at a table and could barely hear our server or each other due to a loud obnoxious idiot at the bar counter which was full of other people. We should have asked to be seated in one of the other 4 rooms and would have had a much more enjoyable experience. I wonder why we were seated there since there were many empty tables in the other areas. I don't think we will be returning.

The catch of the day special was flounder, prepared with a beautiful balance of other flavors: crab, lemon butter, watercress, and skinned tomatoes in a rich sauce blanc. All of the dishes were well plated and the service was attentive but never intrusive; I appreciate that all five of us received our courses at once, and that no one’s plate and setting disappeared before all were finished eating!

Le Yaca provided us with an exceptional dining experience. Not only was our food outstanding, the service was impeccable, and the restaurant was very quiet even though the tables around us were occupied. A very memorable experience.

This is by far the best French restaurant! The food is always unbelievable, both taste and presentation, and the service is impeccable. When we are in Williamsburg we always book a table at Le Yaca. We usually order from the prix fixe menu where the selection is excellent but we also have had their specials. Everything is super and the bread is to die for ❤️
