Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

We chose the five-course menu, and it did not disappoint. Husband's favorite bite was the scallops with truffle sauce. My favorite bite was the beef tartare (and husband ate almost half of it). Tomato bisque was smooth and delicious, not overly sweet as some can be. My steak was perfectly rare, and lobster melted in the mouth. Husband had the 3-meat trio and all were cooked perfectly and very tender. We finished with the souffle and cheese plate. I would come to Le Yaca for just the souffle! It was perfect. Husband ate half and shared his cheese plate with me. The selection of cheeses actually complemented the souffle, especially the brie. I had a nice doggy bag with 1/2 steak and spinach for lunch today. The waiter was so attentive and friendly. The only thing that was not exception was the French Onion Soup. It was good, but not great; way too sweet for my tastes, but husband finished it all. We had a nice French Cab Sav for under $50, and a Bourdeaux for $70. With tip the meal came in around $400. This is definitely a special occasion meal. We have eaten here many times and there are more budget friendly options.

We entertained friends last night at Le Yaca! What an amazing evening. What I love the most about Laka is that it’s not fussy but elegant, not pretentious but socially warm and friendly. I can’t see enough about this place and I consider it probably one of the finest places to eat anywhere nearby. Finally the food is exquisitely prepared always right on point and carefully deliver to your table by a staff that makes the experience complete. Don’t miss the desserts. You really can’t go wrong !

The food and service are outstanding. Our waiter, Ming, is the best. I had a salad and crab cakes. Both were excellent. Others in our group had Dover sole. They said that it was excellent.

This restaurant is my absolute favorite in Williamsburg! The food is always perfect/fantastic/amazing - terrific flavor combinations cooked perfection …. I can’t say enough good things. I think their fixed price menus are reasonably priced And let you enjoy more than just the entrée. The restaurant is beautiful and quiet, elegant, and relaxing. The staff is always top-notch and makes you feel special. The only negative, if you consider a negative, is that you will have an intentionally leisurely meal. This is not the place to come if you’re in a hurry or tight on time. A two or three person dinners will run two hours. You go to Le Yaca to enjoy every bite of the meal and every minute of the company you are with.

We celebrated 50 years of marriage here. We asked for a nice table and that is what we were given. The room was beautiful. A very good server was attentive and welcoming. The fixed price options were very good and prepared well. We were able to bring our own wine for a reasonable corkage charge. The server even decanted it and it was delicious. Overall the best dining out experience we’ve had among the top 5 high end restaurants in Williamsburg.

Was a great evening start to finish, as its been a while since we have had the chance to stop in. Friendly greeting, our table was ready and as requested, Minn our sever as always cared for us and our guess very well.. The wines were great, and all our food was wonderful and as expected. Was great to see and say hello to Howard as well, and the others in the room appeared to be enjoying themselves as well.. We look forward to getting back in again shortly now the holidays are upon us, as we know the restaurant is always decorated so well during the holidays. Thank you again, .and look forward to our next visit, Deb and Bill Schmidt, Wmsburg
