One of the nicest small dining rooms in the East Bay. We had generous portions, very well cooked. Corkage is only $20.

My wife and I had a pleasant dinner for her birthday in this lovely Julia Morgan-designed building. It took the waiter awhile to come by and ask if we wanted a drink, but after that the service was very pleasant and efficient. I had the tomato bisque, which was tasty enough, but not particularly special, and the braised short rib, which was tender and delicious. The accompanying mashed potatoes and greens were also very tasty, but the roasted carrots were a little too al dente. My wife had the beef tartare appetizer, which was very good (if you like that sort of thing, which she does) and the roasted half chicken, also very tasty. The cocktails were fair. We each also had a glass of wine with dinner, which were generous pours. We shared a creme brulee for desert, which was fine, although I have had better. All and all, it was a pleasant meal in a very nice setting. I would come back, but probably try some different menu items.

As usual, Julia's excellent in all categories of hospitality: service, ambience, and food. The latter received high marks from both parties involved in the delightful experience.

Julia's is in a spectacular building designed by the famed architect Julia Morgan in the 1930's. It takes you into another world, and is really the best part of the dining experience. Make time to explore, including a beautiful indoor swimming pool on the first floor. The service was good and the ambiance was great. The menu was interesting and the prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the fare. The food was rich and artfully plated. Unfortunately, my dish was a bit oversalted for my taste. My companion's duck breast was not very flavorful at all: the duck was very mild and the orange sauce was not very orange. Go for the experience, not for the food.

It was an amazing experience! The food was fantastic, especially the steak, which was the best! The service was exceptional as well! We were able to enjoy our meal in a relaxed environment, feeling like we were dining at home with wonderful service.
