About this restaurant

At Jū-Ni, we focus on the fish. Our name means "twelve" in Japanese. This signifies the number of seats around our sushi bar, and also the number of courses in our Omakase experience. Chef Geoffrey Lee and his team skillfully guide diners through twelve course of nigiri consisting of fish from around the world. The majority of our fish is flown in twice weekly from Tsukiji Market in Tokyo. Chef Lee combines old world technique with modern flourishes to create a memorable progression of flavors and textures in your Omakase experience. We hope that you’ll join us soon.

Please note, that we have a 48 hour cancellation policy.

This restaurant is fantastic. It is expensive, but, in my opinion totally worth it. Our chef was Steve Kim, and just watching him transform our meal right in front of us was like watching a show. Food is excellent -- fresh, unique and just plain fantastic. Honestly, while the price is high, we both felt that it was a night out with a show and excellent food. A must try for anyone looking for a spectacular night out. Thank you Chef Steve Kim!!

We are not sushi or sake aficionados so we cannot fairly rate our meal as worth the price. The sushi was delicious, uniquely prepared and seasoned to bring out the flavor of each fish. The sake was interesting - served in wine glasses - but seemed rather expensive (cheapest offering was $14/glass). The wine was definitely overpriced at $15/glass and $75/bottle for La Follette Chardonnay which we can get at Falletti's for about $20. If you are a sushi aficionado and have money to burn this place is probably worth a return visit. Not sure that is us.

Very personal experience with one Sushi Chef per 4 guests. We were able to talk with our chef continuously about the food and other topics. Obviously it is pricey but well worth it and on par with similar experiences. Every bite was amazing and we were very full by the end of the regular tasting menu, though we did see many others ordering supplements after. Great service and beautiful, memorable sushi.

The chef is very ignorant and does not know anything about sushi. He believes that "SF sushi is on par with Tokyo". He over seasoned a few sushi. He had the finger lime from Australia and added onto a nigiri. It has a good taste but he added way too much of it, overpowering the taste of the fish itself. Later on, I ordered a Toro nigiri after the Omakase was over. This gentlemen next to me ordered the same thing. However, the gentlemen cannot eat oyster so he didn't get the oyster in the beginning of our Omakase. Both the oyster and the toro has caviar on top for seasoning. At this point, the chef told the gentlemen sitting next to me "Since you didn't get the caviar from the oyster, i am going to give you more for the toro". For someone that knows sushi, that is total nonsense since you are suppose to add the optimal amount of caviar to make the nigiri taste the best. Adding more just makes us know you don't know anything about sushi, completely unacceptable. Not only that, the lady sitting to the right of me and the Chinese gentlemen on the left of me both ordered the Hokkaido deep sea uni. However, the chef was only kind enough to give the lady another small piece of Santa Barbara uni to see the difference; but he didn't do the same with the Chinese gentlemen. When the gentlemen asked for a small piece of Santa Barbara uni, the chef gave him and charged him a full sushi. Its not that the money matters but he shouldn't treat people who ordered the same thing differently. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. The whole dining experience was a disaster and I will never want to go back again. I have had sushi everywhere (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, New York, Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai) and tried Jiro, Saito, Shikon, Masa, etc. many times. Of course, I am not comparing Ju-Ni to the best sushi restaurants in the world, but I still wonder how it got One Star to begin with. I found out later that the original chefs are mostly gone, that is why the quality plummeted.

It was a wonderful experience. The chefs, wait staff and hostess provided exceptional customer service. They catered to our every need and my husband was thrilled to see that they customized the menu for the evening with a personal message. Our chef was hilarious, you will definitely see us again.

Just okay. For a $400 dinner (for two people), I feel like the meal should be outstanding. I have had sensational meals at other places like Wako and Kabuto for half the price. The dinner was good but not great. The salmon and most of the other fish was farm-raised. We won't be back. However, Ju-Ni does have a very nice atmosphere and the overall experience was pleasant.
