   Outrageous fees, rude management, unethical business practices. We booked a dinner reservation on OpenTable 7 days prior to Valentine's Day. The main reason we chose il Sogno Italiano was because the reservation page did NOT require selection of a prix fix menu. It offered the Valentine's Day menu OR a Standard Seating option, which I selected instead. This was the only reason we made the reservation. Most other restaurants required you to select the Experience in order to complete the reservation, this one did not. After being seated I asked about ordering from the main dinner menu instead of the prix fixe. The server told me that would incur an ADDITIONAL $50 FEE for the table ($25 for each of us.) This was news to us because our reservation did not mention any additional fees for the regular menu. I explained this to the server and asked him if the manager wouldn't mind waiving the fee since it wasn't required as part of our reservation. The manager came over and without listening to my concerns or allowing me to show her the reservation on my phone, she quickly pointed to her device and told me "it's always been on here...it was $80 [per couple] we lowered it to $50." She didn't even allow me to show her my reservation or explain further. She didn't let me talk. She instead wanted to say that "we have people that come in here and order a $25 pizza and sit for 2 hours..." So you charge a $50 FEE PLUS my meal cost just to order from the regular menu? Why not just make it a $150 table minimum then? Her reasoning really didn't make any sense. Then they assessed an ADDITIONAL 5% FEE on the total bill to help pay the owner's employees' wages and health insurance. This is the COST OF DOING BUSINESS!    It was a fun evening out in the Gaslamp district. Everything at the resturant was pleasant. The food, service and ambiance were excellent, the music entertaining. We each had a salad (beet salad and Caprese a salad) and then split a main of Chicken piccata which was plenty of food. Red wine was great as well as a martini. All in all it a very nice restaurant

   Jen was a wonderful waitress. The food was delicious. The best rigatoni bolognese I've ever had! Cocktails were on point--Old Fashion--yum! A great find in the Gaslamp!

   The ambiance is very nice and lovely, there was live piano music. We had meatballs, lobster arancini, and garlic knots for appetizers. We had pizza and braised short ribs for dinner. The food was delicious and the service was great! We will definitely come back here again!!
