Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy’s chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means the Baker in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.     Unfortunately, my guest's and I thought the same. A very pushy waiter who did not tend to us and we had to ask the busboy to have him come to us. That was each time we needed anything. He just kept pushing for anything on the menu that was big $$$ signs and not even if one was allergic to shell fish. The appetizers were ok, the main courses were awful.

    Per reservation notes we were seated at a desirable table, implying notes were read. Service was timely, attentive and friendly throughout, thanks to Fernando. Our request for non menu dish was accommodated. Food, appetizer, salads, main course was excellent and adequate. Drinks were delicious and generous. Pleasant evening enjoying presence of our son and daughter in law.

    Service was off during this visit, been to location in Irvine with great service. Server forgot our bread order and salad order we asked, by the time we reminded the main dishes were coming in we had to cancel our salad. Surprised the level of attention when we emphasized we wanted our first entry paced with the main course. Opportunity to training and ensuring they listen to customer.
