A bright, colorful Italian restaurant, Ideale is the modern version of a traditional Roman trattoria. It is "festive and boisterous...la vera cucina italiana." Ideale has been bringing Rome to North Beach for 30 yrs now with it's highly acclaimed chef, Maurizio Bruschi. Maurizio hails from 4 generations of Roman chefs, lovingly taught by his grandma, Serafina. The pastas & breads are all homemade & the ingredients are hand-picked daily. Zagat wrote, the "Italian fare is the real deal...one of the few no tourist eateries in North Beach.. excellent pasta & pizza..the service makes you feel like a friend..a delightful experience." Never loses the charm and ambiance and excellent food. We miss Mauritzio but the remaining staff were all excellent. Keep up the good work!

We had a delicious dinner. I enjoyed the fish of the day, a Ling Cod in a delicious sauce. My wife had the chicken dish which was equally delicious. Portions are very big. we had enough leftovers to enjoy for lunch the next day. Our server was attentive and friendly. We also enjoyed visiting with the owners. The restaurant is quite small and the noise level is quite high. We visited with other customers seated adjacent to us and this added to our enjoyment. I celebrated my birthday and that was very memorable. We look forward to a return visit the next time we get to San Francisco.

The restaurant was not crowded but the service was horrible. Slow and inattentive. Food was good. Too bad. Not going back.

Unfortunately this restaurant has lost its charm. To begin with, the noise level made conversation difficult. The pizza was excellent, but several dishes were drowned in oil. With so many other terrific Italian restaurants in North Beach and throughout San Francisco, they need to up their game.

Best Italian food in SF by far! Authentic and delicious. Italian speaking staff. Highly recommend the crostini di filetto di manzo al gorgonzola and spaghetti with clams.
