Overall, my experience at Hull & Oak was positive. The person I spoke to on the phone prior to arriving unfortunately did not have the kindest tone but due to it being my birthday I was optimistic. Our server was nice and patient. We were seated in a private room which was nice but I would have preferred to be able to have music in that room as well. The restaurant was surprisingly empty and we had quite a wait for our food and drinks (the drinks came out after the food). The taste of the food in my opinion was great. I ordered the Hanger Steak with a side of baked mac & cheese. Two of my guests did not like the food. They reviewed that the Cajun pasta, short ribs and crab cake was okay but the presentation was lacking. The salads were great ofc.

Main restaurant closed so had to eat at the bar. Some food good, some not so (collard greens).

We went for brunch, the food was good and service was decent but the price was pretty high. $22 for an omelet is a bit high.

Made a reservation. Walked all the way over with 3 kids (30 min walk) only to be turned away bc they weren’t seating people who hadn’t signed up for their Valentine’s pre fixe. Turns out they never turned off reservation making for normal tables on Open Table. Very poorly managed.

The food was good for the price. I think my expectations for the ambiance was high so that’s the only thing that didn’t really meet my expectations.

They weren’t prepared $79 for valentines dinner which was a buffet of store bought square cheese and lunch meat. Surf and turf was short ribs and shrimp - not great. And the desserts were watery and not well prepared. The flan was watery and separated.

What a fiasco! I had made reservations for this place for a myself and coworkers as we were at a conference that happened to be on Valentine’s Day. My reservation clearly stated standard restaurant dining- not bar. I thought it was weird that we couldn’t get a time before 6. Here’s the short story: the restaurant mistakenly took reservations for regular dining when they were only allowing Valentine’s Day specials in the main restaurant. For those of us who made reservations we were pushed over to the bar side which was not prepared for all of us. I will say that the young lady on that side was wonderful and worked hard to accommodate everyone. The lady on the main dining room was somewhat rude. She didn’t even start to seat people until after 6 and then accused us of being wrong. If I lived in Houston I wouldn’t return here.

It’s IN the Hotel! We got lost trying to find this restaurant. We came when the main restaurant area was closed but even with the bar experience you could still order dinner. The food and the service was really nice! I imagine the typical restaurant area has an even better atmosphere.

The food was quite delicious- especially recommend the Brussels sprouts! But the service was extremely slow, despite only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant. We had a weird experience from arrival when the waitress waved us over to a table from across the room rather than greet us at the hostess stand. The drinks were terrible and came well after our food. The wrong side dish came with our entree, and by the time the correct side came out, we were done eating. They did remove the appetizer and the side from our bill to compensate, which was appreciated, but with all the options in Houston for dining, we probably won’t be back.

We waited well over an hour for breakfast and when we got it it was cold and had no flavour. Only thing hot were the eggs. The staff was not overly friendly. We asked for a tissue and they said go to the bathroom and we had to keep tracking them down for everything we needed. I’d recommend leaving the hotel for breakfast!
