We are an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Their first restaurant together, owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened Here's Looking At You in 2016. Named a "Restaurant of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National's "38 Most Essential Restaurants," HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh's "Becoming a Restaurateur." After four magical years as a small independent restaurant, COVID-19 would force its forever closure. But 17 months later, fate would have it that the community would come together to help resurrect this very special restaurant. Thanks to you, Here's Looking At You is back.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Daniel Cutler

From the OpenTable editors: In the years since its 2016 debut, owner Lien Ta’s restaurant has established itself as a neighborhood go-to, critical hit, and beloved third space for Angelenos. That's because HLAY—as locals call it—turns out inventive California-inspired and Asian-inflected small plates like uni panna cotta and spicy Caesar salad with sesame breadcrumbs alongside an excellent cocktail list and buzzy dining room that combine to feel like a dinner party every night.

One of the best LA restaurants pre-pandemic, now ruined by loud and obnoxious noise levels. Food is still fantastic, but do yourself and get it to go instead of enduring the cacophony of noise inside, enhanced by the snooty and borderline bullying service.

My new favorite restaurant in LA has really set the bar high! Insanely delicious and unique food, drinks, and incredibly kind, genuine, and helpful staff. Energy of the restaurant is very warm and inviting. I thought it was just a one time thing but now I’ve been back 3 times and more in love with the space then I was the first time. Highly recommend- spicy Caesar salad, pork rolls, fried chicken, steak- don’t sleep on the mushrooms in it, and snowed in (drink)

The burger is bomb! Very rich so it can be shared between two. The Caesar salad was also a damn delight! If you're feeling like splurging def add the 30-day aged steak!

Give your date advance warning that you might pick up a dish and lick it if you come here. And if they judge you, they're wrong, because everything here is *that* good

We love HLAY! We had not been to the 8:30 happy hour, when there is a burger and steak frites added to the menu. The burger was delicious and the curly fries were perfectly seasoned. Cocktails always fantastic and the vibe is friendly & fun. Highly recommend!

Had an incredible date night at this hip spot. The vibe was great and food was wonderful. We joined for Tiki-Thursday and the Mai Tai was delicious! Shout out to our wonderful server, Elliott who had great recommendations from the menu. The Gem Salad and the Bronzino are highly recommended! Seriously, check this place out!!!
