   The Tavern is one of my favorite places to go in Salem. The service today was less than satisfactory. Not sure if they were overwhelmed or just didn’t want to be a server today. Too bad too, we always leave a nice tip. Oh well maybe next time will be better. The worst part was today’s my birthday. So that kind of sucks

   Service was outstanding, starting from when we entered the hotel. We were greeted with a big smile and made sure we were being helped. Honored our reservations early. Waiter came to table immediately and took our drink order. Got the quinoa salad, it was outstanding. Grilled cheese was also A+. Always great. Love the Tavern.

   Very warm and friendly atmosphere. Great for winter and fall months. Waitstaff excellent as is food.

   We’ll never come back. As soon as we walked in we felt unwelcome. The bartender seemed to not want us there. He said he’d be with us in a second and proceeded to talk with those at the bar. Didn’t make any drinks. Just talked. We waited 10 minutes to sit when we arrived at our reservation time. There was no reason to wait. We were sat without food menus, only drink menus, and we waited another 10 minutes for water to arrive. Once the bartender came over with water he asked if we wanted a bottle of wine. We asked for food menus instead. This took a while to receive. Again, once he came over he asked if we wanted a bottle of wine again, we ordered two non-alcoholic drinks. He seemed annoyed by this. Once the drinks came, we ordered our food. My ravioli was hard to bite into, and my husbands chicken was too dry. They were not worth the $30+. We had to ask for our own silverware, never had anyone come ask how our food was, and we had to walk up to the bar to ask for a box and for the check. We drove 4 hours for this reservation. We were so excited, and this was the worst dining experience we’ve ever had. We went to Salem to vlog and enjoy the place we used to live in 10 years ago for college. It was such a disappointment, we almost drove back home. If you want to experience a nice dining location, do not make reservations at Nathaniel’s. Eat at the Tavern if anything. Night and day experience despite being under the same roof.

   I was glad we had reservations for lunch, as the dining room was quite full on a Saturday! The three of us enjoyed very good food. The service excellent and the ambiance was really lovely. We weren't rushed out the door at all. I would happily return.

   Had a lovely lunch with a friend in a delightful relaxed club like cozy setting. The menu was large and varied enough that we were able to dine on what we truly desired. The wait staff was very accommodating and allowed us all the time we required to decide and chat. I Highly recommend this warm library atmosphere for a casual dining encounter or a business lunch

    Amazing breakfast, beautiful, elegant atmosphere. Piano player added so much. Love the Hawthorne breakfast. A little bit of everything in one bowl, so much food... so delicious. If you are in the neighborhood, def worth your attention.
