We did the tasting menu and added the wings and papaya salad. Loved all the food and would get everything again except perhaps the dumplings— not bad just not amazing like the rest. Had 3 nonalcoholic spritzers—- all were very good. I definitely would go back and told others to give it a try.

Another phenomenal experience—no surprise there! You always knock it out of the park. Our group had a wild mix of dietary restrictions, and the staff made sure everyone could enjoy most dishes without any hassle or judgment.
The food, drinks, and service? Absolutely top-notch.
Huge thanks for making our friend’s milestone birthday so incredibly special!

We decided to indulge in the tasting menu and it was absolutely phenomenal! Our waiter was very attentive and provided us a wonderful experience. Overall food was tasty, the only caveat was the under-seasoned chicken. Everything else on the tasting menu was spectacular!

Hai Sous delivered a every aspect of a relaxed fine dining experience.
The interior is a contemporary play on the beauty of Vietnam. The space is covered in wood, bamboo, greenery, patterns and textures. It’s quite sleek yet eye catching.
The atmosphere itself is comfortable. A few people are in blazers, a few in sneakers, but most are in the middle - put together and comfortable. The seating gives a reasonable amount of space between you and the next table. So it’s not too loud and easy hold a conversation.
The menu is small enough to digest and big enough to give options. There’s plenty of creative menu items to try (e.g. confit eggplant). We ordered three dishes. All of them were incredible.
Hai Sous isn’t cheap per se but priced well compared to the total experience and similar restaurants in Chicago.

This is my second time at this restaurant, and unfortunately, I have had the same experience; everything is too sweet, fried, or creamy. While I like sweet and sour sauces and creamy coconut milk, the chef must balance the flavors and modify the menu to cut down on sugar, cream, and fried food. Also, this time, we were charged $38 for "shrimps," I guess you can say shrimps since they were 2 shrimps and 4 pieces of white bread, but we even had to ask the waiter if this was a mistake since we didn't felt we had $38.00 worth of "shrimps", with tip and tax this is up to 50 dollars for 2 shrimps. The waiter told us this was the correct charge. The "Papaya Salad" is supposed to be a highlight, again sweet sauce papaya and pieces of fried pork. The only thing good and unsweet was the roasted eggplant. For the price, I would get a similar meal at Le Colonial, where you will get more shrimps, and less sweet food.

Overall, the restaurant was good. The service was a little slow. Food was above average and very original. Don’t think I’ll be back because there are so many great restaurants in Chicago.
