About this restaurant

  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Lively
  • Hot spot
Just like the bohemian travelers who inspired our name, Gypsy Kitchen’s alluring flavors aren’t bound by borders. Instead, our chefs go wherever the inspiration takes them, crafting deeply creative dishes that transport you to uncharted places around the Mediterranean and beyond. A menu designed to taste and share gives guests the freedom to explore the menu at their own pace, connecting over seductive flavors, festive craft cocktails and curated regional wines.

The alluring interior matches the menu, with welcoming dining spaces that foster connections and spark conversation. Antique tapestries and rugs, twinkling lights and vibrantly patterned tile set the scene in the expansive dining room. Or, take a seat on the rooftop patio oasis, where lush greenery, plush cushions and the sky overhead evokes the feeling of being on a caravan to explore a distant land.

I had an amazing dining experience at this Mediterranean gem! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. The staff really made us feel welcome and took the time to explain the menu and offer great recommendations. The food was absolutely fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The hummus was creamy and rich, the octopus definitely is the best. The ambiance was relaxed yet elegant, making it a great spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. If you’re looking for a place with top-notch Mediterranean cuisine and excellent service, this is it. Highly recommend!

Had to wait 45 minutes to be seated, despite having a reservation. No communication from staff, just “wait at the bar and you’ll get a text.”

Everything about our dinner was fantastic. We had a little bit of a wait, but the staff were informative on status. Appetizers were great with the shrimp croquettes being the surprise. Service was very attentive and there when we needed something. Highly recommend a stop by the gypsy kitchen.

Great food and service for pre-theater brunch. Pulsing music could be modulated a bit.

Stayed away from this place for years because I'm not big on Mediterranean. Oops. Had a fantastic dinner with a friend last night. Food was outstanding, drinks were cold and not overpriced, server was excellent (wish I could remember his name but in case management sees us, short-ish dude with the shaved head who was working the roof on Saturday, April 5). We got a bunch of small plates... highlights were the flatbread and labneh (huge portion of labneh) and the pork belly. The only miss (for me) were the shrimp croquettes, which didn't have much flavor, but my buddy loved them and I heard the table next to us say the same. So maybe I'm wrong :P We had a cute little (as in actually small and low to the ground) coffee table kind of set-up in the corner of a restaurant, pillows, etc. Perfect spot to lounge and nibble over a few hours. Nobody rushed us at all. One tiny drawback is that the roof is enclosed with a screen, so it isn't quite the same as "outdoor dining," but it does protect you from rain. Willl 100% be back soon.

Lamb was phenomenal, as was the flatbread and spiced humus. Would get a few tapas instead of branzino next time.

I hate service fees. Be honest and raise the price. Nothing upsets me more than expecting to pay one thing and then being surprised with an inflated price. And then you expect me to give a 20% tip on the inflated price. Be honest and do better.
Gypsy Kitchen - DCResponded on 4 April 2025
José, thank you for your feedback. We understand and respect your perspective. We are dedicated to providing our guests with an exceptional experience and constantly ensure we are competitive in cost with other top restaurants in the area. We will see what we can do to make our pricing more transparent. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again soon.

I loved my brunch experience at Gypsy Kitchen. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We ordered the hummus which included a yummy naan-esk bread, the beet salad, the burger, and the sangria. Definitely looking forward to returning.
