With a name that means "cozy or nice atmosphere, but also belonging and general togetherness," gezellig invites guests to experience an elegant menu of local, seasonal cuisine using french techniques in a casual and welcoming environment. Located in Ottawa, Ontario, gezellig prepares each menu item using high-quality ingredients purchased locally. On the menu are items such as seared scallops, braised beef shortibs, potato gnocchi, beef tartare, duck breast, and wild-caught lingcod. Our classic butterfinger for dessert is a staple that has been on our menu since opening in 2012

I had their salad for an appetizer, which was just average, mixed greens dropped on a plate. Had duck for the main course which was good, but everything else on the plate was cold. The tiramisu dessert, was lack lustre. The cocktails were good, the wine suggested for the meal was excellent - but overall, I expected a quality meal at this restaurant and was disappointed.

The staff was outstanding and was very accommodating especially with our 91 year old birthday celebrant. All the menu items were excellent and staff was very knowledgeable about the menu. We have been to Gezellig many times and it is always a great experience.

What a delightful evening from beginning to end! It was my birthday and my husband had tried to bring a cake from a bakery to have for dessert but plans went awry when the bakery was closed due to a power failure. This was explained to our server when we arrived astray had been expecting to serve us this cake. The wine choices were excellent, the food delightful. My salmon was perfection...lovely and moist. One of our friends said that the beef tartare was the best that he has ever tasted! At dessert time, they presented our table with four different desserts each with a candle as a surprise to make up for our cake mishap. We were all overwhelmed and delighted! This has always been a favourite spot for lunch but now will also be a destination of choice for a special dinner!! Thank-you

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Gezelig. The server was knowledgeable and helpful. We had the Seared Octopus as a starter. It was expertly prepared and presented. It was very tender and tasty. We recommend the Confit Duck Leg and Grilled Quail. Both delicious with many different flavours in each dish. The bacon jam that came with the Grilled Quail should definitely be experienced. As with the appetizer, the dishes were nicely presented. We highly recommend this restaurant.

The quality of the food is outstanding however the portions are too small, just a bit more on the plate would really make a difference. If you get a table upstairs be prepared to shout to have a conversation with your friends. My preferred meal here is lunch during the week.
