We had an outstanding server today. My husband did not like his meal. Without our asking, when they noticed he wasn't eating his food, the server offered to get him a different meal. The replacement was delicious. The service outstanding.

Food was ok. This place is a glorified diner - crowded, noisy, strollers. Definitely not a French restaurant. wait staff was very good.

What a cozy, wonderful restaurant! My braised lamb chops and glass of Bordeaux hit the spot on a rainy night in mid-December. Tarte tatin - shared by 3 - was also yummy and nicely presented. The holiday decorations are a very nice touch too, especially during a time when some places are pulling back and cutting costs. I had a very pleasant dining experience; I should frequent this local gem more often.

I love French Roast, but my experience for brunch today did not live up to its usual high standards at dinner time. Every time I go for dinner, I rave about the food and service-- EVERY time. I've only had brunch there a few times, but today was substandard. The 1st cup of coffee, for both me and my friend, was luke warm. I ordered the avocado tartine. The poached eggs were hard boiled. I should've sent them back, but that would have meant my friend eating before me, making it unpleasant eating timing. And the staff did not stay ontop of coffee refills. This was a birthday brunch for my friend, and it was unsatisfactory-- very disappointing.

Marilyn, we are certainly sorry to hear this. It was a challenging brunch for us today as we were having our Department of Health inspection during service, which slowed us down and through a wrench into our regular service. We do apologize for letting you down.

A great burger, exceptionally pleasant service and a welcoming ambiance, The French Roast has become one if our faves on the UWS. And I'm certainly not in my own with this opinion! Very popular, even on an early Monday night; reservations recommended.

The restaurant is great with a cute French ambience, and the food and drinks are good. The service is excellent, and the restaurant is within walking distance of Central Park!

Our brunch at French roast was wonderful. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we had everything that we needed. The food was delicious. Highly recommend.
