We were two couples celebrating my wife's birthday, and after going to the biennial Berkeley Early Music Festival, what a lovely discovery this restaurant was for us ! I opened the menu and was lighted to see a well-chosen small selection of local craft beers. Good start ! We had a glass each of lovely strong citrusy IPA from a brewery in Oakland which I had never seen before. And Cheers! for serving a full 16oz pint at a good value. My wife had the nice bottled light Indian beer offering. Since none of us had ever had Momos before, we decided that, since there are 8 to a plate, we would order and split them as an appetizer. Oh, that would take 15-20 minutes before they were ready, so we had all had a very nice cup of light lentil soup which to me had a delicate light and slightly smoky after taste ... complimentary, thank you very much. The momos were quite good with the extra spicy tomato sauce we ordered and a good start. Being our fist ones, we had no reference to judge, but we liked them. The garlic and plain naan were cooked perfectly and were a good prelude to the Lamb Saag Curry which my wife and I had. I ordered "medium plus" spicy, and will be bolder next time, as I think the 'Hot' will be even better. It was an hour or so before their closing on a Sunday night, but with a number of other patrons, the audio environment was very workable for conversation, even for those of us with diminishing hearing capabilities. The background music was loud enough to keep the audio environment lit, but not enough to interfere with our celebration. With a full house the audio environment here might be less perfect, but I don't think it would be the clanging loud of some dining spaces. The interior is very simple and clean with a pleasant choice of colors; overall, a slightly subdued feeling. Although we were definitely in no rush, the service was friendly, attentive, and kind. Top notch. Thanks to owners and staff for a lovely first visit ! We'll be back !
