I was really looking forward to dining at Et Voilà!, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The biggest letdown was the beef stew, which was made with short rib—a strange choice for this dish. Instead of the rich, tender, and flavorful texture you’d expect, the meat was dry and overcooked, completely lacking the melt-in-your-mouth quality that a proper slow-braised dish should have. To make matters worse, the noodles were plain and unseasoned, offering nothing to complement the stew. And the mushrooms were served cold and tasted raw, as if they were an afterthought rather than an intentional part of the dish. For the price of 125 per person, I expected much better execution and attention to detail. Sadly, this meal didn’t live up to expectations, and I won’t be in a hurry to return.

My husband and I love El Voila. It has been a while since our last visit but this visit was just as memorable. Valentines Day made even more special. I compared several Valentine menus before choosing this one. The menu was perfect.

As usual, the food and service were excellent. As we dined on Valentine’s Day, which in 2025 was on a Friday, the dining room was fully occupied. This made the space louder than usual but not too loud we had to shout to converse. (Et Viola never plays background music, a courtesy I wish more restaurants provided.) The hostess seated us at a table placed in front of the dining room and facing the bar and entrance. We would have preferred a table along the wall or deeper into the dining room. It was added to accommodate one of the busiest nights of the year; understandable but not a location I want to experience again for a meal that cost nearly $300. We will be back on a less-busy night. This is the best French restaurant in San Diego at this price point. Parking can be challenging so give yourself extra time or consider taking a cab or rideshare.

The food was delicious, the wine was affordable priced, and the staff were courteous. The cheese options and the French onion soup are amazing.
