   Beautiful night celebrating family birthday. Food was amazing, complex and tasty. Very filling and ambiance was homely but inviting.

   The food is always exceptional at Essen. Even when there is something on the menu that I think will not be my favourite, it ends up being totally delicious every time! Excellent service and very attentive staff, without feeling you are being hovered over. One of our favourite places anywhere to dine.

   The food was great quality and our waitress was lovely but I’ve never dined out and been told we couldn’t order more food. I have a crab allergy, I wasn’t expecting crab to be on the menu given the restaurant celebrates mostly local producers. Nowhere in the booking section was there space for dietary requirements, it was only after our waitress had said we were meant to write it in the ‘special requests’ section. We asked if we could just order an additional plate of one of the previous courses and obviously pay extra, but were told it wasn’t possible. I felt quite embarrassed and disappointed, until I overheard that the two tables next to us had the exact same issue with shellfish allergies. I can’t fault the quality of the food that came out, the ambience was gorgeous and I love what the chef is doing to celebrate local produce and minimise waste but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t gone home and made myself a sandwich afterwards as I was left somewhat ravenous. Essen is definitely worth a visit but please note your dietary requirements before you go. Oh and bring booze.

   Essen was an incredible dining experience. The way Clarissa show cased local food and her own creativity was amazing. Each dish unique and full of flavour, combining ingredients that at first glance you would not think of. I would recommend Essen to anyone looking for a dining experience.

   A nicely balanced set menu. Lovely use of local produce. Expertly cooked by the chefs. Lovely and knowledgeable service. BYO alcohol, soft drinks available to purchase.

   Food was fantastic as was the service. The only issue was that our table was under the music speaker and it was a bit too loud.

   The food was delightful. Our hostess for the night was super professional, so warm and friendly. Everything was perfect - right down to the quiet music playing in the background. The surprise candle for my hubby's birthday was a special touch. We will definitely be going back to this hidden gem.

    Clarissa puts love and ambition into her food. Stanthorpe is lucky to have such a gem in their midst. Worth an overnight stay if you are from out of town. Exceptional. Specialises in using only the best quality local ingredients which produces a great result. We shall return.
