About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Good for groups
Originally opened in 2005, Garrett Harker’s flagship restaurant has reopened its doors just up Beacon St. only three blocks from its original location. Eastern Standard continues to offer seasonally focused New England interpretations of classic brasserie fare, including raw bar and charcuterie, nostalgic favorites like steak tartare, baked rigatoni, steak frites, and butterscotch bread pudding, and some new soon-to-be-instant-classic dishes. Cocktail legend Jackson Cannon has crafted a beverage menu that features an array of craft cocktails both new and classic, a curated selection of wines, and craft beers from near and far.

Please contact events@eshospitality.com to inquire about hosting your private event or large party reservation.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Acclaimed brasserie Eastern Standard is back and better than ever at the Bower complex. Snag a seat at the oyster shell-inspired bar or in the mahogany-decked dining room for longtime favorites like the baked rigatoni and roasted bone marrow, plus the same showstopping cocktails that earned the restaurant accolades from Esquire and Tales of the Cocktail.

The food remains top notch for the most part. Great oyster spot, nice variety otherwise. Ambiance has really changed at the new location though.

Saturday evening, I ordered the Bone Marrow and a Shrimp cocktail. Restaurant feels spacious even with the weekend crowd. Bathrooms were clean. The Shrimp cocktail allows you to select the number of shrimp you receive. The menu states $4 but it would be nice to have the additional costs per piece. They were large, tender and required no condiments. The Bone Marrow.....ugh. I decided on this prior to arriving and was excited to order this. I do not know who is in charge of Menu Vernacular but to list this under the SHARING/ FOR THE TABLE heading is nothing short of asinine. If you are unfamiliar, bone marrow is not exactly plentiful but to charge $20 [rounded up]for less than 3 Tablespoons of product and then suggest the table can share it is as ridiculous as Elons' son being part of White House press conferences. If this was, AT LEAST, served over cheesy grits or polenta, you could stir in the marrow and residual oil and it could satisfy as a light appetizer. There was not even enough marrow for the two pieces of bread given-the bread supplied appears to be the same bread they give the table for free, FYI. The highlight of the mail was my cocktail: a Manhattan, which was perfect. I must note they use what appears to be Luxardo cherries, not your Grandmothers Radiaoactive red cherries normally reserved for Shirley Temples. I will return but I would not trust any of the "For the Table" options as being an amount of food that could feed more than a gerbil. Equal Measure is their bar next door; I wandered in. I walked in gingerly and had no intention of staying... I was 'greeted' by a passive-aggressive employee who acted like she was Security for Taylor Swift. I stood in the lobby and attempted to explain I was just admiring the place. Her variation of "we're having a private party tonight and look forward to having you at another time" was unnecessarily dismissive. There should be a sign if you want to prevent 'civilians' from entering the space.

Great first time at ES. Lived up to my expectations. Great vibe, nice room and bar. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was very good. Had brunch. Bacon, egg and cheddar biscuit was very good and the Roscoe Pound cocktail was excellent.

Was looking forward to seeing the "new" location. Used to go to past ES weekly. Maybe I am just getting older. Pretty loud early we were there at 6:30. Table was not ready tried to go to bar but busy, Seated at hightop table for two but was 3 of use. Apps awesome, only 1 pino option and was not so good, Cab was OK as was beer selection. Asked for table with more space didnt happen. Daily Schnitzel special out, order bazed zitti. Way too salty, whole non chopped tomatoes in it, with little meat and it was cold. Bouillabaise not so good, steak frites good. Drinks, dinner, shared desert over 300.00. Disappointed but glad we checked it out. Wont return, too bad.

Our entrees took an hour to come out. We didn’t have time for dessert as a result.

Our entire experience was just meh. Drinks are expensive and so is the food at the portions they give you. I got the monkfish bouillabaisse and it was 3 pieces of shrimp and 4 muscles and that’s it for the dish for a price of $38…Others at the table got the steak frites which was lacking flavor. On top of that the place was filled with people that made reservations, but the kitchen was backed up like they had never got busy?? Anyways don’t go unless you wanna pay for an ok experience

Great experience, burgers were great. Found a little short of diversity of different kinds of foods one menu. Service was outstanding as well as ambience.
