Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Serigne Mbaye

From the OpenTable editors: Born in NYC and raised in Dakar, chef Serigne Mbaye has garnered national acclaim for his deeply personal pescatarian Senegalese tasting menu, including a James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in 2024 and a spot on the prestigious TIME100 Next List the same year. Step into the jewel box restaurant for a memorable evening, where some of the dishes are served family-style and where you'll learn about the history of the food and drinks in front of you. Expect a welcome tea, before diving into the seasonal seven-course menu that might include Gulf shrimp and smoky jollof rice.

As an executive chef, I have dined and worked in a number of very upscale restaurants. Dakar has made the top five for my life. The wine pairing was exemplary. I could not have done a better job. Most importantly, was the general feeling of warmth and kindness - the feeling of belonging that each staff member from Chef Mbaye to each and every staff member, teamwork and care was evident. Thank you for a wonderful evening and I would recommend Dakar NOLA as a specific reason to visit New Orleans.

Everything was perfect. I did the wine pairing and Cam/Kam was a great guide. The GM, Keenan, was also amazing and helpful. Finally, hearing from Chef himself (especially about The Last Dish) was deeply deeply moving. I got a reservation 3 hours before my seating and am so glad I did it. Thank you, thank you.

Great restaurant. This is my second time dining here and it’s a must when in NOLA. Small intimate restaurant with great food. Was happy to be able to meet the chef this time around! Would definitely recommend.
