   Unfortunately I booked Stonehouse for our Christmas family get together as we were going away prior to Christmas itself. Always thought the building looked beautiful so hopeful the meal etc would be as good. We had a 4 year old and a baby with us so I wrote beforehand asking to be tucked away if possible so as not to disturb anyone else. We were put in the library where they said no one else would be but it turned out in a small space there were three other sets of people in there. Unfortunately the service was very slow, we had to ask repeatedly for orders for drinks or food. After 2 hours we had been served cold starters and the child’s pizza was not cooked through. We asked for the child’s pizza as soon as we arrived because we wanted to keep the 4 year old quiet for the sake of other guests. It turned up after 1.5 hours. All we kept being told was “we are very busy”. We ended up leaving before the main courses turned up. I am afraid the whole experience left my mother in tears. I would never go there again.

   As part of our Cotswold experience really looked forward to our stay at the hotel and dinner at The Brasserie. A bit disappointing in that we were ready for burgers and both our chicken and beef versions were dry and overcooked. Wanting to order the beef at medium rare, I was told that the chef only does well done. Hmmmm. Should have been my clue to order something else. Overall the service was good with our server tempering our expectation in food delivery as there was a Christmas party vying for the kitchen and food was going yo be delayed; it was fine. Value of food poor, in our eyes, especially with the quality of what delivered. But again, another choice of main might have resulted in a different review.

   A pleasant afternoon tea, enjoyable sandwiches and a selection of cakes which met all of our dietary needs. Attentive, friendly staff who made us feel welcome.

   Overall we really enjoyed our evening here. Drinks in the bar area, a lovely start to the evening, and in Restaurant the meal was beautifully cooked and presented The Staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive.

   We booked dinner for 19.45 on the 11 of October. We arrived early shown to our table everything was set ready for us. What a beautiful restaurant to dine in my wife had spiced pumpkin soup to start I had the crispy squid if this was an advert for the main course we were in for a treat.My wife had the steak medium to weigh done I had the lamb the food was absolutely perfect and very reasonable The staff were very friendly and helpful so we booked to go back for our wedding anniversary and stay for 2 nights can't wait for May
