   What makes Castillo Craft Bar & Kitchen special starts with valet parking. It eliminates parking anxiety associated with downtown dining. Located in the Renaissance Hotel the ambiance has a high end vibe. We chose to dine on the porch. Our server, Jacob, had excellent knowledge of the menu, describing each item perfectly. We shared the charcuterie which was fabulous and large enough for 4. Next course was the pickled shrimp salad with grilled sourdough also excellent. Entrees were the mushroom bolognese and the fresh catch which was Red Drum. Both were outstanding. Between courses Bryce the food and beverage manager and Marcus the general manager visited with us and explained their mission of providing locally sourced ingredients with culinary preparations that speak to the St Augustine residents and tourists alike. Based on our experience they hit a home run. We finished the night with the datil bread pudding. Totally impressed. We will be back.

   Would have been great/excellent if it wasn’t for how loud it got in there. When there was hardly anyone within our vicinity the sound level was manageable but as soon as it started to fill up you couldn’t hear yourself or the person across from you speaking. I feel there weren’t enough food selection either especially at some of the prices listed. The bison burger could have had better toppings as it was all one note of flavor nothing to truly bring out the bison. A piece of lettuce or a slice of tomato or a couple of evenly sliced butter pickles would have helped it a bit rather than covering it with bbq sauce? The braised beef that the others had was great but one plate had way too much fat and not enough meat. But the flavor and plating of it was yummy. Someone had the salmon and I’m assuming that was good but since they did not comment on it I cannot give an accurate verification of that pretty dish.

   We were there for our 7-year wedding anniversary and had an amazing time! The ambiance is beautiful and it’s not too loud! The cocktails were delicious and so was the food! We got complimentary champagne and chocolate truffles for our anniversary. Our server was so kind and attentive! She even took a great photo of us. I wish I remembered her name, but she was a very sweet and cute blonde woman.

    Everything was fantastic! Really enjoyed the ambience, the food, and the service! As a former restaurant manager, I appreciate fantastic service and food and this is exactly what we experienced tonight! I would highly recommend this restaurant! We had the brussels sprouts to start and then for dinner we had the short ribs and the mushroom Ragu pasta . Loved all of it! Especially enjoyed our server, Niles! We will definitely be back!
