** Please note all bookings are for our restaurant, we offer first come first served for drinks in our bar area.

*** Please note due to licencing restrictions under 18's are not permitted in the main bar, we can seat under 18's and over 5's in the restaurant for dining. We cannot allow under 18's in the restaurant after 10pm.

**** As we are a listed building we do not have Accessible toilets on the ground floor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal all except for an octopus starter. It was cold, had to have it taken away and were brought another one which was warm. Lovely atmosphere and would recommend.

We had a delicious meal and great service at Cafe Royal. Our only disappointment was that they were out of oysters….which was one of the main reasons for going there! Apparently they ran out because of new years. We hope to come back to Edinburgh another time and will try again.

We only stopped in for some oysters but they were very good. Matched with an excellency Bloody Mary to boot! The history of Cafe Royal is amazing to see and read about! We will be back.

My wife and I finally got away from a sick mother-in-law for a day out. When we entered the restaurant, the waiter greeted us with a scowl and a raised finger to show he was busy. The relationship went downhill from there. After my wife complained about too much salt in the cullen skink, he very properly offered to take it off the bill and then took another order for the starter. But then he inexplicably brought the dessert menu. We said we didn't want any dessert. We sat and waited for our main course order of venison steaks. We waited an hour for them. I went up to the bar to enquire and it turned out he had cancelled the order! I ordered chicken Balmorals on condition they could be done quickly. The waiter said 20 minutes. We waited 30 and then left, hungry. We won't be back.

Although the overall entourage was good, the food was defiantly decent but the service was really below level for the price you pay.

Look the main bar is great! However the “Oyster Bar” was pretty crammed with tables. Our table was right up against the bar. The food was bland and lacked any flavor. They only had one vegetarian dish on the menu, Thai curry. There were 2 small pieces of cauliflower and 2 small pieces of squash, sauce and rice. The other 3 people in my party said that the food was disappointing.
