Indian
Café India in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City, offers a unique dining experience. Set in this vibrant area of Glasgow, the restaurant represents constantly evolving menus and a carefully matched wine list and organic Scottish Craft Beer selection – all designed to reflect an ethos of innovation and creativity. Cafe India is one of Glasgow’s oldest Indian restaurants, originally on North Street in Charing Cross until it was destroyed by fire and now in our new home in the City Centre.
All our main ingredients are delivered straight from the market on a daily basis to ensure only the freshest, locally sourced ingredients reach your table. To make our dishes and sauces as low fat and healthy as possible, we do not use ‘Ghee’, which is high in fat and our chicken is steam cooked or grilled. This approach ensures you can enjoy all your favourite dishes but with a healthier twist and as they are prepared in our state of the art, theatre style kitchen.

Having booked a table for 7pm and arriving at 6:58pm we were most disappointed at having to wait until 7:30pm before being shown to our table. There were 2 hen parties on, both of which arrived after ourselves and were all shown to their areas while we had to sit and wait. Luckily we were through in a separate dining area away from the karaoke hen party and the other was in a private area downstairs. Unfortunately the service did not improve and it felt like the hen parties were being looked after before any other private diners. Our drinks order was taken after us sitting for a good 10 minutes and then did not arrive until after appetizers and starters. Staff were overly keen to clear our plates and literally whisked them away within seconds of us picking up the final piece of pakora! I hoped this meant our mains were ready but sadly not, a long wait followed. We were eventually presented with 1 main, a bowl of rice and basket of naan. After waiting about 10 minutes another staff member approached to ask if everything was OK as we were not eating. We advised them that we were still waiting for another main course. When asked what we were waiting for we had to ask them what the dish was that we had already received as the previous waiter had not said. Another 5-10 minutes and we finally had the 2nd main course. They brought us a fresh bowl of rice and basket of naan as the first lot had got cold while we were waiting but, needless to say, we did not stay for dessert. The quality of the food was the only good thing about our evening, the chefs are clearly very good but the front of house staff let them down badly. The lamb was very tender and everything tasted lovely. Despite the food being good, I doubt we will return because of the service we received.

We booked a table for two at Cafe India for an after-concert meal. We've eaten there before three or four times, although spread over several years. It must be fully two years since our last visit. Maybe my memory is at fault, but I was surprised to find bare tables (no cloths) and the table had quite a lot of (what I took to be) candle-grease on it. The restaurant was far from full (surprising on a Friday night?). We were shown to our table and provided with menus immediately. Service throughout was prompt and efficient without ever being over-attentive. The food was excellent, and we both enjoyed our meal very much. We would certainly go again. We had an appetiser, starter and main course. The portions were generous and we did not feel able to eat any more.

Decided to try something different for Hogmanay so booked a table for four. Booking experience very easy on line and booking quickly confirmed. Arrived early but not a problem. Promptly attended to by courteous staff and seated. Drinks options not vast but meets the needs and some nice wines on the menu. Staff will talk through the options on the menu and take care of any special dietary requirements. Food is obviously prepared with care and attention. Quality is superb. The sauces in particular and very nice. It is worth mentioning that there is no excess oils in the blend that are so obvious in many other restaurants. None of the courses disappointed and well all left satisfied. Cannot speak for the dessert courses as none of us were able to pack one away but they did look delicious going out to other diners! Very pleasant experience and will definitely be back in 2016.

My friend and I went here one day after work. The waiters were attentive and friendly (without being overbearing). The starts came really quickly and after we asked they waited a while to give us our main meals. My friend likes her curries really spicy and the chef was more than happy to up the spices in her meal. I'll definitely be returning here.

We were a party of 4 having a meal on a saturday evening. It was our first visit & wont be our last as we were all delighted with the presentation of the restaurant & the staff. The service was first class & the food was superb & very reasonably priced. The whole evening was a lovely experience which as I said we will repeat.

Had visited this restaurant before, it was a Monday evening so quiet, the staff were lovely and attentive, however the meal wasn't as we had expected, perhaps down to our selections, but the lamb was salty, I had asked if my dish was mild, and told it was medium but they would tone it down, it was uncomfortably hot.

Food was nice but no better than my local takeaway and cost four times as much. £12 for a small dish of curry is ridiculous especially as you have to pay extra for rice. Can't even say the atmosphere made up for the cost. Would not rush back.

Main course sauce too thick. Not enough lamb in the portion. Service was very good and very good ambience. Maybe we are too used to going to the same place that we expected here to be similar. But it wasn't.
